Great value hardware, but mine arrived horribly mid-aligned. Don’t expect to use it straight out of the box!

Alignment was simple enough - there are countless YouTube videos showing how to adjust the laser so the beam is co-axial with the mechanical axis of the collimator. No harder than the telescope collimation task you’re trying to do in the first place.

Minus two stars because this adjustment isn’t part of the product - no instructions, and the adjustment screws are hidden away under sticky sealant. Should just come with a simple test jig, a screwdriver and some good instructions!

If you’re happy digging into the device to unseal the adjustment screws and do the biz, you’ll be pleased with the product ultimately.

I initially purchased a Cheshire Collimator £37 to ensure my reflector mirrors on a skywatcher 200p were aligned/collimated properly. However, it was a wee bit difficult to use and gauge whether the collimation was successfull or not. As i'd never done anything like this before, I spent close to an hour adjusting the various screws, going back to the view finder and trying to make sure the I could see the 3 mirror clips as per the instructions in the telescope user manual, but I could never get to that point. I was eventually very frustrated and decided to return that and purchase this one instead.

(I will upload images of what I did soon)

I first checked as per guides by other users to make sure the collimator was collimated. This was a breeze and I found no issues there.. so thumbs up there.

Next, I inserted the collimator in the focuser and to my surprise the collimation wasn't too bad (maybe I could've stuck with the cheshire, but I couldn't confirm it).

The secondary alignment was a little bit out and so was the primary.

Using the sybony was a walk in the park. It took me approximately 5-10mins to collimate the telescope.

I first aligned the seconday mirror so I could see the red dot in the centre black circle on the primary mirror and then I aligned the primary mirror to ensure the red dot was in the centre of the sybony reticule.

note: The process of collimating the secondary and primary I had to do twice as once i got the primary back in alignment the secondary was then out of alignment. A litle adjustment on the secondary and then the primary and all was done. I re-checked the next day again and checked against a star. All good.

The collimator looks lovely and the 7 different brightness levels are a nice idea, however the unit arrived and i found the laser was not straight. Unfortunately that makes the collimator useless as there are no laser adjustment screws. I got this as it was the cheaper of the two svbony collimators and i didn't think at the time as to why this was cheaper, looking more closely I see the more expensive one has laser adjustment capabilities so that's what your extra dollars get you.
So beware of buying this as if it goes out of collimation you have a worthless piece of junk on your hands.

When I went to return this as I'm in Ireland I couldn't get any company to transport it as it has a Li-ion battery, in fairness to amazon when I contated them they refunded me without having to return the item

Used it to collimate my 5" reflector. I held off from buying one of these devices because I wanted to learn the process of collimating it by hand to get some experience. I highly recommend all beginners to collimate by hand first and watch tons of Youtube videos on how to do it. After using the laser collimator I found that my doing by hand methods of collimating was very close to what the laser thinks is perfect.

I knew going in to this that this laser collimator will probably need collimation the second it gets unboxed and fortunately for me, the collimation was acceptable out of the box. Tested it on a V mount and the collimation was acceptable. Not perfect, but way better than some people unfortunately have experienced.

The tool is well worth the price if you know what you are buying. Don't buy it, plop it in your telescope and expect it to work right away. Do your research. I wish SvBony would give us easier access to the screws but it's not a pain to get to them. I was ready to collimate my telescope within 30 minutes after unboxing it.
