This UGreen SSD enclosure is quick and easy to set up. There are three steps and no tools are required. This is useful if you have more than one SSD available and want to swap drives around. If you don't plan on swapping drives, the 'tool free' feature is less of a selling point. My other enclosure is aluminium and uses two screws (a screwdriver was included) and in my view, it feels more robust than a plastic one. The UGreen enclosure is plastic but does not feel cheap or flimsy. It has an LED light which flashes when the SSD is operational. The enclosure has sufficient foam padding inside to stop any movement of the SSD. A good all-round SSD enclosure at a reasonable price.

*update 14/05/2020* sadly have found the Toshiba drive is no longer being recognised by the PC, I will try a small storage SSD but if its not being picked up it will be sent back for a refund

Having received the enclosure I set it up using an old 2.5 Toshiba 320gb mechanical hard drive. Initial use was good and the transfer speeds seemed steady, sadly I dont have exact figures but at a later date I will probably move to an SSD.

The case itself is of nice quality with vibration pads on the edges, the lid did feel a little flimsy when taking off but when it's in place especially with the drive it's pretty solid though definitely not going to take being smashed around with a hammer though for the price I wasn't expecting it to be bomb proof.

I did leave the protective wrapper on the piano black section of the enclosure as I can see it getting scratched quite easily, anything that gets handled a lot matte black is the way to go UGREEN.

With my testing I did find a problem when trying to use a 3rd party USB cable from syncwire, the drive no longer showed as being recognised though did power up, I found once reverted to the included cable the drive was picked up again though I did need to use Windows scan feature and 'fix' the drive. So a warning to anyone wanting to use other cables it may have been an isolated case but it's recommended to do some testing first before risking any data loss.

Overall I'm happy with the purchase and I do like the trend that newer external drives/enclosures are moving to USB 3.1.

BTW, I bought these in 2020 with intensions of using them, but I upgraded my computer and installed 6 SSDs...now I've further added 2 more SSDs to my computer, and I'm just using them 12-31-2024 with two 256GB drives as backup drives for priceless photos and documents...

I cannot say enough about these!! When I upgrade future SSD drives and remove them from my computer, I'll definitely buy more of these to use for my SSDs of less capacity but for more critical backup purposes!!

If you have extra SSDs laying around and a USB-C external connection on your computer/motherboard, GET ONE OF THESE!!

**Again I bought these in 2020 and they came with a USB-A to USB-C cable...obviously you will slow down to USB-A if you use that cable, so unless they are now including USB-C to USB-C, you will be best to purchase a USB-C to USB-C cable for faster transfer rates!! I haven't tried the USB-A to USB-C cable included with the device, as I purchased a USB-C to USB-C cable from ��غ�� and when I plugged it into my computer's USB-C external port, it worked instantly!!***
