Product description

Do you like Italian zombie movies? And do you like Italian cannibal movies? If you do, you're going to love Zombie Holocaust, which takes the best bits of both and mashes them up into a particularly nauseating cocktail as the great Ian McCulloch (Zombie Flesh Eaters) does battle with the living dead, the local 'anthropophagi' and an especially demented scientist as well.

Sometimes known as Doctor Butcher M.D., this 'orrible classic has been fully restored: the blood and guts have never looked as lurid as they do in this brand new 4K transfer. 88 Films are proud to present this mad masterpiece of Italian exploitation, completely uncut.

"..CLASSIC ZOMBIE GORE MOVIE.."
ZOMBI HOLOCAUST 4K 88-Films. 2-Disc.There are lots of great 80's zombie-cannibal movies out there and this is certainly one of them, a gem of a movie that has a great story that combines all the best elements of the 80's into one, you have cannibals, zombies, mad human experiments, plenty of nudity and gruesome gore!! The story starts out with doctors investigating body parts going missing from the hospital, it leads them to believe the mysterious people involved are linked to a cannibalistic island, on visiting the island to further their beliefs they discover things more shocking than they could possibly imagine, the movie does have a great cast of actors and actresses, notably the beautiful Alexandra Delli Colli who is no stranger to full nudity in this movie much like Ursula Andress did in mountain of the cannibal god, the practical effects budget is marvellous, glorious blood and guts and gore and plenty of it, (CERTAINLY UNCUT) this movie is really well made and stands out from other movies of its kind I think, if you love these old cannibal movies then certainly check this out, the new 88-films 4K Blu-ray release.Blu-ray and 4K look great for an old movie.Features include commentary and plenty interviews. trailer and more.English language and Italian language with English subtitles.Region ABC FREE Running time 89-minutes, 1980.The 4K limited edition as usual is amazing with a decent quality thick slipcase and booklet, poster.

Yet more care-free westerners find themselves in peril venturing into the uncivilised wilds of Southeast Asia fending off cannibals, zombies and a rogue mad doctor conducting human experiments.

ZOMBI HOLOCAUST (1980) features two stalwart antagonists of Italian horror and exploitation from the 70s and 80s - the zombie and the native cannibal - and it serves up what you might expect. The cheapo gore is plentiful enough with moments of entrail ripping, head crushing and eye gouging to satisfy needy gore-hounds. Though the cannibals may provide the lions-share of the carnage on-show there's a brilliant moment when the zombies are first introduced into the film when they face-off against their cannibal advisories that hits with the same energy as when The Terminator first confronts the T-1000 in T2. Other highlights include - the lovely Alexandra Delli Colli fully disrobing a couple of times to provide the bulk of the customary quota of sleaze, a bad-ass Ian McCulloch wielding a boat propeller with devastating effect, and a wonderful mannequin swan-dive out of a hospital window which never fails to amuse. There's a very small percentage of the population that will truly appreciate and watch on with glee at this type of film so it's not a high recommendation. But for fans of low-budget Italian horror and exploitation from the 80s it's essential viewing.

88 Films have done a fairly extensive restoration and remaster job for this 4K UHD release including giving the UK the extended version of the movie for the first time which edits in the previously deleted 5 minute "Pit" scene. The picture quality is of a very good standard considering. A nice little boost in colours with enhancement from the Dolby Vision grade working nicely enough. A healthy amount of noticeable fine detail is present but it's still a fairly grainy transfer, though with minimal print damage. It's a noticeable improvement over the Blu-ray but don't expect a dazzling upgrade. Overall it's a great physical release with superb Devon Whitehead artwork adorning the slipcover and also the included double-sided poster, and a generous 40-page booklet rounds off the package nicely.

The print is badly scratched, and even though they've cleaned up most if thay, they then added excessive digital grain to cover that up more. Colours are good but that's it. Box and book are decent. Extras dull.

Like Lucio Fulci's 'City Of The Living Dead' from Arrow Films, this upcoming 4K release of Zombie Holocaust' is going to be missing (unwanted) picture from the 2.35:1 avaiable 2 perf techniscope frame, as it too was composed for 1.66:1.
Will 88 Films be brave/stupid/crazy enough to give us a look at the whole frame's picture as a supplement? Arrow Films didn't and missed a chance to have some fun! A similar experience to the 'dual framing' of Dario Argento's 'Opera' is not to be expected, but it would be fun to see what is on the outer left and right extremities outside of the 'composed' frame. Even if it just a random bewigged Cannibal standing around or an Italian crew member scratching themself.
EDIT FOR UPDATE SEPT 2023: Severin have just announced a superior version 4 disc release with both the Euro and USA cuts each on a 4K UHD:
