Zombie 5 - The Italian Collection 68
Collector's Edition
A group of college-aged ornithologists have taken a class trip deep into the wilderness on a quest to find and study a rare and possibly extinct species of bird. Despite receiving ominous warnings, both human and avian, they set up camp in a musty old house, only to find themselves under siege from mysterious supernatural forces. But it’s not just the house or the hoards of hungry birds that they have to worry about, they quickly realize that they’re also going to have to contend with a group of bloodthirsty zombies, who have descended on the deserted farmhouse!
A positively jaw-dropping slice of late 80s horror, as only Italians are capable of imagining, Claudio Lattanzi’s Zombie 5 is an ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ styled thriller which piles on gore and insane plot twists.
Starring Lara Wendel (Tenebre) and Robert Vaughn (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), and produced by exploitation auteur Joe D’Amato (Anthropophagus), 88 Films brings Zombie 5 to Blu-ray newly restored from the original negative.
SPECIAL FEATURES:

A group of college-aged ornithologists have taken a class trip into the wilderness on a quest to find and study a rare and almost extinct bird, they set up camp in an old house, only to find themselves under siege from a mysterious supernatural force! Not only is it the hungry birds they have to worry about but also bloodthirsty zombies.
Yes the movies plot is bonkers and it plays out just as confusing, this is one cheesy late 80's zombie horror but is not without some charm, the story is mainly what lets it down, its hard to follow with all the crazy things going on, but it kind of makes sense by the end, the cast is overall not too bad, the movie even though its a 15 rating has a few good bloody kill scenes especially with the zombie attacks, not the best but still entertaining, good old practical effects too, even though it carries the zombie title its not really a sequel or part of the running series, its mainly a stand alone horror with zombies in it, the movie has a good setting, some classic foggy set pieces and some good composed music to set the scene. its cheesy and not one of the best but still enjoyable if you love these cult classic cheesy 80's horrors, 88Films have certainly made a great collectable Blu-ray release.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 June 2021It’s been a long time since I saw a film as truly awful as this. The first ten minutes offered promise but then it was massively downhill after that: in fact, what happened during those opening minutes was not even properly explained later on. The story was appalling and incoherent in places: goodness knows what the so-called zombies were that suddenly appeared in the last act. I have no idea about the significance of the birds in this film. The quality of acting was only worsened by the quality of direction. Characters ran around together like something out of a school play and at ley moments just stood doing nothing when they should have been helping their friends facing death. The sound quality was poor in parts. The film featured Robert Vaughn who must have been absolutely strapped for cash in the later 1980s to have appeared in this, in a role that was not even half baked. The film is a ‘15’ not an ‘18’ as shown on this website. Some films as so bad they are good: this is not one of them. 88 Films normally release interesting ‘subterranean’ films but they invested good money in a stinker this time.
