I've a few of the older versions of this bracket and they've worked well for me over the years, however there's been a few annoying (and sometime knuckle damaging!) niggles with them.
The new S2 bracket isn't a revolutionary new product, instead it's a sensible evolution and again it looks like Godox have taken user suggestions onboard.
1) It has removable bottom "inserts", as standard they allow the use of any normal rectangular body flashgun. Remove the top half of the insert and you now have a round base. Perfectly sized for the Godox V1 flash (another item I totally recommend!). Perfect! I didn't like having to clamp my V1 via the main part of the body.
2) There's a bit wider "reach" when the top bracket is unscrewed, this overcomes the previous problem where they were just a bit "snug" for clamping an AD200. Perfect! I've 2 AD200's.
3) The ratched based tilting has been replaced by a friction style, so it means not only that you don't have to unscrew the handle too much to release and reposition the head angle you're now free to put it at any angle you want, you're not constrained by the ratchet.
4) The bracket can be mounted horizontally as well as vertically. Not sure what advantage this gives, maybe a little bit less vertical space used when you're putting a modifier in a tight space. At least you have the option now.
Overall, the build quality is sturdy and both "clip on" style softboxes and Bowens mount modifiers fit just fine.
The price also represents excellent value for money.
