Can I machine wash my jacket?

Most waterproof breathable jackets are machine washable but always read the care label first. Nikwax supports the use of machine washing with its products to provide fast, effective and even application.

Will using Nikwax products in a machine wash damage my washing machine?

No. Nikwax products have been tested by leading manufacturers and no harm or damage has ever been caused to washing machines or their components. Nikwax is safe for septic tanks and other non-mains drainage systems.

How often do I need to treat a garment or item of gear with a Nikwax proofing product?

Items that are properly treated (cleaned and proofed with Nikwax) will withstand 4 to 6 washes. For an average use of outdoor clothing we recommend that you wash and re-proof your gear at least once a year.

What are the advantages to using Nikwax TX.Direct wash-in instead of TX.Direct spray-on?

Using Wash-in means the clothing will be evenly coated and the proofer will reach hard to get to places. Using Spray-on can be useful as you can target specific areas of the jacket that need waterproofing anytime, anywhere.

Do Nikwax treatments change the appearance of footwear?

As with all other treatments, Nikwax Waterproofing treatments may slightly darken light or unusual coloured leather or fabric. However, our footwear range is specially formulated to minimise any change in colour or texture of the leather or fabric.

I bought this set to maintain my tent flysheet's water repellency -- Regular reproofing of fabrics helps keep them in good condition and the added UV protection helps prevent premature degradation and tearing of the fabrics.

I particularly appreciate the gear cleaner that comes in this set... Sometimes when camping 🏕️ you get a little more than you bargained for especially if you pitch up under a tree 🌴 so I now keep a bottle of gear cleaner and microfiber towel handy to clean up any mess before I pack away.

With the color coordinated microfiber towels and the gear cleaner provided in this set, clean up and reproofing is easy, and it's nice to have products backed by an ecological innovator in the outdoor space.

I used this to breathe a bit of life back into my 15 year old Black's tent. It is a 3 person Kintail model to give an idea of size. It wasn't particularly dirty so can't comment on how effective the wash was, however, the waterproofing spray worked very well. You don't need to dry between washing and treating so I was done in an hour (including drying time at the end). After treating the tent water was beading off it nicely and I used it over the weekend during bad weather and didn't suffer any leaks.

The product clearly works and for the price i would highly recommend. Its super easy to do as well. You just need enough space to put up the tent and some water to hose it off with.
