I tried to put sand into the stand, but I found it difficult to get the sand in, so for easier use I used water. Once filled with water, or sand, it has a good stability, and held up our parasol in a light wind with ease. The size is a bit bulky, but it fits between our deckchairs so not a big issue. Easy to assemble,and use, with a couple of different functionality purposes, like parasol on it's own, or parasol in middle of a table, or just something heavy to use as a weight to keep something from blowing away.
