ULTIMEA continue to impress me with their range of surround sounds and the prices they can build and sell these for!

This is rates a little lower to most of the other ones they have on the market though due to its lack of true dolby digital. This uses virtual surround sound and their SurroundX Technology (whatever that is) and although MUCH better than having just a front sound source, it isn’t as iimpressive as having true surround sound.

The system is really easy to set up and has loads on audio input options and the sub is really nice… adding an extra layer of depth to the sound. The rears are ok but aren’t as clear and as obvious as what youd expect the surrounds to sound like. I test these using an early scene in 28 Days Later. The room is full of screeching monkeys and it gives me a good idea of how the surround handles this. This system certainly fills the room but its almost as if the surround sound is equal on both channels and you don’t get individual noises form each speaker. For some this wont both you… and for the price point I wouldn’t expect much better to be honest but for that extra advantage while gaming it might not be good enough.

The speakers pump out decent wattage for their size and take up very little room, making them easy to position. Put some thought into where they will be though as wall mounting might prove difficult sue to their small size.

Overall it’s a decent system, the lack of dolby is disappointing but having this will absolutely add more to your films, games and music over a stand alone tv source.

This was advertised as 7.1 channel virtual surround sound system.

I used to have a complicated 5.1 setup with many cables and issues kept occurring and wanted to simplify my setup. Me, thinking this would be a step up from the 5.1 I used to have, purchased this. Turns out the word “virtual” is doing a lot of heavy lifting. It’s not surround sound in any sense. It’s a glorified stereo system. 2.1 is more accurate, but with 7 speakers and a sub woofer. Sure, it surrounds you. But it’s not true multichannel audio like 5.1 Dolby or DTS would give you. If that’s what you’re after, go and buy the D60. I know, it’s a lower model number so you would think D70 is better. No. D60 is the one that does true multichannel audio (except DTS for some reason).

Aside from that, it’s a system that is easy to set up, the sound quality is very good, the sizes are good, and the most practical and feature I think worth shouting about is the wireless subwoofer, THAT THE REAR SPEAKERS ATTACH TO. Finally I don’t have to run cables that aren’t long enough along the length of the room and hide them somehow etc. So handy and useful.

Money wise, I can’t really say if it’s worth it or not. For the wireless sub alone I’d have paid a premium, but the fact that it’s just not true multichannel audio irritates me. Like how hard would that be to implement? Can you flash the D60 firmware on the identical D70 soundbar? Who knows. It is what it is.

I'm extremely satisfied with this speaker system.

Initially, I was worried about having to run cables across my living room to position the surround speakers correctly. However, the subwoofer and rear speakers connect wirelessly to the front speakers, which simplifies the setup significantly. While the rear subwoofer does require a separate power supply, the absence of cables cluttering the space is a huge advantage.

You can connect the system to your TV via HDMI/ARC, optical, Bluetooth, or AUX cables. On my Sony TV, I found that I could only control the volume with the TV remote when using HDMI. The system includes a dedicated sound remote that provides shortcuts for each input method, basic equalizer settings, and useful EQ presets. The active mode is displayed on the main soundbar screen. Additionally, there’s an app available that enhances functionality. It allows you to fine-tune the EQ to suit your preferences or use your phone in place of the dedicated remote. The EQ adjustment is particularly handy for managing sound levels to avoid disturbing neighbors while still delivering impressive audio quality. You can also configure settings like turning off the speaker display after a few seconds.

The sound quality is excellent and highly adjustable through the app. You can tailor it to fit your room and accommodate your neighbours. While the 'virtual' 7.1 surround sound may not match that of a full-fledged system, it is still quite remarkable. The small speakers deliver rich sound, and when cranked up, the subwoofer packs a powerful punch. The setup instructions are clear, intuitive, and easy to follow.

Overall, this speaker system sounds fantastic, is simple to set up and use, and I couldn't be happier with it. Honestly there isn't really a reason to get a more expensive system for home use because the smaller space doesn't justify it.
