I've always avoided getting involved with heat transfers and had stuck purely to normal non heat vinyl cuts for various projects on hard surfaces. So without any specialist heat press I bravely stepped forward armed with an Iron and a selection of blank T-Shirts.
The process is exactly the same all the way up to transferring your wedded vinyl cuts to transfer paper.
Following the positioning of the vinyl I laid an old tea towel inside the t-shirt and another on top, possibly a little over kill I then used a piece of parchment paper over the top of the external tea towel and then ironed over the top pressing down firmly but without forcing any weight down. I did this on a relatively low heat #4 because I am trying not to burn any vinyl or plastics.
Sadly there is no "Ping I'm done" notification and it would be ideal if there was. Mostly you've got to eyeball it all and when you feel confident enough simply begin to peel away. Go slowly and you will see if you have been successful or not. If not you can simply place it back down and repeat.
I have to admit as a first time heat transfer vinyl guy I'm rather pleased with the outcome. Furthermore the pack of vinyl's works out at a highly respectable £0.50p per sheet which you may get 2-3 prints out of unless your going something full torso.
