Picked up this 4-pack of NPF970 batteries with the charger, and it��s been a total game changer for my filming setup. The batteries are high capacity, providing hours of reliable power for all my filming lights and cameras. I��ve used them for multiple shoots without running into any issues with power, and they hold up well even during long sessions. The charger is super convenient, allowing me to charge multiple batteries at once, so I��m always ready to go.

First off, this is a fantastic charger. It has a relatively small footprint, a good display and it charges quickly. It only needs a single USB C connection to charge 4 batteries simultaneously. Much better than sequentially in my opinion. I havent put a timer on it, but it was quick and if they say its a fast charger, thats good enough for me. It did fully recharge 4 large dead batteries in a few hours. Unfortunately, they pair this with 4 of the most mediocre batteries on the market. While the batteries work fine, they lack every feature in current day batteries such as increased capacity, charge indicator display and usb connections. Really lame and such a miss. I love the charge, but dont know how best to use the 4 batteries unfortunately.

I had initially given this a one star rating, as it just didn't work out of the box...constituting a failure in my eyes. But SmallRig reached out, and with a little patience, and graciousness on their part, we were able to sort out the issue and get this great fast charging system up and running. Here's what I found:

- turns out there may be some compatibility issues with at least one of the SmallRig 100W charger bricks (which at the time I got it said universal compatibility) and this NP-F charging station. They just would not work together, SmallRig replaced the NP-F charging base...and it still didn't work. They are looking into the 100W charger now...but it is also possible I got mine before they did an update to that line, which have addressed this specific issue, but as mentioned, they are looking into it
- to resolve the issue, SmallRig graciously replaced my charging brick with their newest one, that goes above the required 80-100W range of the NP-F charging base, and just like that everything worked. (the reason I am giving this base 4 stars instead of 5...if the base requires a specific charger, it really should be packaged with it. In this kit you get four batteries and the base, but no charging brick at all, and if it requires a specific one, it should be included in that kit. That being said, SmallRig took my customer experience very seriously, quickly sorted through the problem and addressed the issue as quickly as they possibly could...and for that, for me...they win top points. Excellent customer service, and honestly, the best and most responsive customer service I have gotten from any camera gear company of any kind, and that's the sort of thing that makes a believer out of me.
- it works extremely fast. I didn't time it because I honestly wasn't expecting it to charge the batteries quite that fast, and they were done before I had even noticed, so I can't say how long it took all four batteries, but no chargers I have compare to its speed.
- there is a slight electric buzz sound to the unit...but it does occur exactly the same in both units I now have, and checking with SmallRig, the techs told the rep I was working with that it is normal. So, as I am told by SmallRIg...nothing to concern yourself with if you are taken aback by it as I was. It isn't loud, and certainly not as loud as some lights I have, but it was the first time I encountered such a sound.
- the build quality is, while plastic, surprisingly good. It is a heavy little unit, and the plastic thick and rugged. The screen is bright, but admittedly quite small if you have old eyes like I do. But I can definitely see the status of each battery with just a quick look. It is nice having a charger that works with this many batteries if you are using a multi-camera and several monitor setup like I do...it used to take all day to charge four batteries. Now it's done before I am done with my morning pot of coffee.
- there is a nice braided usb-c cord that comes with the unit, making this fit into my ecosystem easily. While it is larger than any charging base you likely have, it is also worth it to me because I had three different charging bases set up to handle my batteries, now I only need the one, saving a lot of room at my charging station. I have stuck the other in one of the cord bags I take when shooting on location, because in terms of getting batteries charged for the next day, you just can't beat it. This is one of those tools that once you have it, you ask why it wasn't always this way...it just makes sense.

Overall the big lesson for me here, SmallRig wants to work with you. If you have an issue, just contact them and they definitely want to get it sorted out with you. I came away from this being a much bigger, more dedicated fan of SmallRig, and I am happy that I worked with them when they reached out to me. They mean business about the customer experience, and it shows. The charging base is now a very valuable part of my studio setup, and a piece gear I will always take on the road with me now. I find these NP-F batteries to be very useful, and have quite an arsenal of them now, they just make like so much easier. Don't let four stars fool you, this is kit worth having...it is more of me making a statement about how kits are packaged together when there are specific needs/compatibility issues involved, and designing it for noise reduction if there is some working noise (I like it as quiet as possible in my studio). I am very happy with this charger, and would definitely get it again.
