I have a very nice LG OLED TV that came with a very hefty price tag and a so called Magic Remote.. About the only thing I don't like about the tele is that Magic remote. The main problems are that there are a multitude of fairly small buttons and there is no backlight and so when I am watching in blackout conditions I find it very difficult to locate the menu button and often end up pressing the wrong button and being taken to a screen that I just don't want to be on.
I ordered this remote in desperation. I realised that it isn't backlit but it does have large buttons and there are few of them with the all important menu button being at bottom right and very easy to locate, as is the power button at top left.
One niggle is that the listing's written instructions for pairing to the TV are different to what is shown in the listing video. You have to follow the video or the instruction leaflet that is included, which say: 1. Turn on the TV 2. Put batteries in the remote 3. Point the remote at the TV and hold down the Mute and the + Volume button together for about 5 seconds. 4. You can let go once the small red light towards the top of the remote starts to flash. 5. When the Volume control indicator appears on the TV press the mute button again and the pairing is finished.
I was quite excited about getting this remote. It promised to have the basic functions that I need and would have been a real boon in my dark TV room. When I received it I was pleased with how it felt in the hand and it's ease of use with the over size buttons that I could locate even in the dark. However, when I initially paired the remote to TV the crucial function of accessing the menu just didn't work. When I pressed the menu button I was taken to the Programme Manager screen and the only way off that screen was via the OK button which took me to the Edit All Programmes screen. From there no button worked to take me forward or back, I was a prisoner on that screen and had to resort to the old remote to rescue me or turn the TV off with the new remote and then turn on again.
Then I realised that the instructions actually said to test the buttons and if they didn't work correctly them you should repeat the procedure. On the second attempt I got what I wanted. The menu button took me to the menu and all the buttons worked as expected. I was impressed and very happy with this very simple device..
All I can say is , if at first you fail, try and try again ! I nearly wrote this remote off but that was because I hadn't fully grasped what the instructions were telling me . If the remote doesn't work first time around just repeat the pairing procedure and it may reach the desired settings.
