ÍøÆغÚÁÏ Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I was brought up by parents who liked to make their own pickles, and it’s a habit I’ve continued into my own old age. There are plenty of different approaches to the process, although up to now I’ve stuck to the traditional basic vinegar method. My wife however loves sauerkraut, for reasons beyond my ken, so I thought this was a great opportunity to try this process for a change. Firstly, it’s worth nothing that these are big jars. I know what the various capacities are and I can also see from the pictures, however until you’re holding one you don’t realise just how big they are. I’m going to need a lot more cabbage than I’d planned for. As with anything that’s made of glass, you want them to be well packaged. The packing of these jars could be used in a how-to seminar on the best way to transport glass. They come tightly packed with purpose made foam inserts on the top and bottom, with additional padding around them. I wouldn’t suggest trying this, but I think you could get away with dropping the box on the floor and not breaking anything. The jars themselves are works of the glassmaker’s art. They’re crystal clear despite being made from thick and sturdy glass, and they come with all the necessary equipment to allow you to use them for fermenting, or if you just want to use them for regular pickling, you’re covered for that too. They’d be great for batch pickling things before separating the product into smaller jars. I’ve been experiment with different flavours added to pickled onions and these would allow me to make one big batch, then flavour several smaller jars with a variety of options. I’m very impressed by them and, if I could, I would like to give them six stars instead of five. Highly recommended.
