Lomo Emergency Storm Shelter Bothy Bag

Our emergency shelter is used to provide some protection from the wind and rain when you are in the outdoors, without a tent.

It's ideal to take shelter when you might not have planned to and need refuge from bad weather.

It's lightweight, easy to carry and can be pulled over 2-3 people to help keep the elements off them in an emergency.

We designed the shelter with 2 airvent snorkels to aid ventilation and these can be adjusted or closed in heavy winds and rain.

Two people can sit inside the shelter and have enough room to face each other and still have an area in the middle to eat.

Three people in the shelter is a bit more crowded, especially with large rucksacks but in an emergency situation it is possible.

This type of emergency survival shelter is now commonly used when hill walking, mountain biking and kayaking as well as other outdoor sports.

Waterproof Taped Seams

The storm shelter is made from high visibility orange nylon material and features taped seams to make it watertight.

The bothy bag has 2 large retro reflective patches on the front to help reflect the torch light from a search party or helicopter searchlight.

A viewing window is also included in the design to let the occupants see out whilst keeping sheltered.

I recently used this during a snow storm on top of a mountain. It did its job perfectly, blocking out the fierce wind and sleet and keeping me comfortable until the storm passed. It was absolutely fantastic. Having windows on both sides is great and the two vents (which can be closed in really bad weather) help to reduce condensation. For anyone who spends time in the mountains a Bothy Bag should be in your pack. This one weighs about 400 grams, packs down very small, but when opened out easily fits two large adults. For a £20 investment and minimal weight penalty, this adds a lot of safety and security for any hiker or climber.

This is a really good Bothy bag at the lower end of the market. It’s slightly too thick for me with regards rolling it into a small ball, however, that doesn’t detract the value for money that it offers. I e used the upper end bags before for shelter and this one is just as good. It provides excellent shelter and is big enough for two adults and a child, three adults at a push.

Small and light. Bought as slightly tongue in cheek joke with my daughter. But, no joke when we were caught out in bad conditions on Snowden in May- ( wind, rain and temperatures close to freezing at summit ) pitched this and we were dry, warm and back ready for completing the descent after just 15 mins.
Recommend- even if you only ever use it once- you won’t regret it.
It is cosy , size wise for two- so check out your own needs before buying the correct one and try it out in the lounge before you go- to get the hang of it.

Seems good! I haven't tested it in weather yet, but it certainly held up well in my sitting room (lounge/front room)
I've put it in the car so if I have a breakdown (vehicle not nervous) I can sit on the side of the motorway like a huge tangerine for people to wave at!*
Oddly the reflective panels are only on one side which seems a little silly, so maybe in the event of a mountainside-emergency-rescue situation orientate yourself towards the rescuers path (You'll need to pre-arrange your planned accident location with local search teams) or if you're not that organised worry not!, when the catastrophe occurs simply spin on the spot (lighthouse stylee).

I'm 6ft 2, this is a great size for two people. It wouldnt be comfortable with three people. It has a draw string all around the bottom which gives a good seal from the elements. My head doesnt feel restricted in this and I feel that I could comfortably spend a couple of hours in it if needed. It has two sock vents which could act as an in and out vent.
Its a great emergency shelter but in comparison to another one of similar price this lacked slightly in quality. The material and window plastic is thin. I'm not sure how long the stitching would last if exposed to a proper battering. In when I pulled the draw strings around the base the hem ripped at the stitching. This was in the calm of my living room. If the design and size remained the same but lomo invested a bit more in quality then this shelter would be hard to beat.
