Normally I love UGREEN products, having purchased many over the years. I also have their 10Gbps version of this caddie. But this time, the product falls below their usually standards.
Does it meet what you’d expect speed wise? Yes, I’m getting close to the rated standard.
Does it cool the drive well and make contact with the included thermal pad? Yes, I believe so once the lid is screwed on.
How’s that rubbed shield, would it protect the drive in a fall? Most definitely.
So why the 2 stars?
The included cable does not sit recessed into the port well enough and the drive will frequently disconnect if you even look at it the wrong way.
But have you tried a different cable?
Yes, although I should not have to. I tried another USB-C cable for data and there is marginal improvements, there’s no nice click you’d hope for from inserting in the cable. The improvements are marginal with a different cable, if I touch the cable, the drive will disconnect from Windows.
I can’t recommend this product.

Had to send the first one back after doing some speed tests, and reconnection tests it then died, the second one, only getting around 980mb/s using a wd sn850x tried various systems and other cables all rated at usb gen 3.2 2x2 all at 20gbps even a 10gbps sabrent enclosure with a lower speed nvme still gets just over this speed above. drivers all fine, usb tree even sees the device as a usb gen 2 2x2, the only plus with this is its does help keep your nvme cool, and the use of sata is also nice to have on top of the pcie nvme. but if you are only after an nvme that does not support sata device, then save your money and go for the cheaper ugreen m.2 nvme 10gbps caddy.

I'm really happy with this UGREEN NVMe enclosure. Needing a new home for the 500GB Samsung NVMe out of my Windows PC (replaced with something larger) the UGREEN is absolutely spot on. It's an all metal until which is opened (using the provided mini-screwdriver) via a single screw. This allows the removal of a panel and full access to the interior. Installation of the NVMe takes seconds. A supplied thermal pad can then be placed on top - which I guess provides a heat dissipation link to the aforementioned metal panel - which is ridged in a sort of "heat ventilation" way. This may actually be more a visual than actual thing - I'm not sure.

All screws etc. are provided - as is a silicon rubber enclosure that (optionally) can be used for additional protection. Two USB-C to USB-C cables are provided (I confess I am not really sure why there are two... perhaps they are different).

All in all - easy to install and it also looks good, feels good and performs well. No complaints...

I'm a big fan of UGREEN, and have been for some time. It was great to see that their M.2 Enclosure is up to their usual standard.

The unit is great quality, with strong metal parts and an easy slip-on silicone cover if you need it.

The SSD is easy to insert and stable once in. The provided USB-C is a nice addition, along with a screwdriver to open and close, and move the holding pin.

The unit will house 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280 M.2s.

Speed is as quoted - obviously no where near those you'll get when inserted directly into the mobo, but that's not what you'd expect and not why you bought it. This has enabled me to get some old data off and M.2 drive easily.

For around £30, this is a good value and well made piece of kit.

5/5 - well done UGREEN.

I tried a few brands that were available primarily to clone and upgrade the SSD in my laptop. I had Western Digital Black and Samsung EVO 970 drives. Most of these enclosures have a Realtek chip that makes the M.2 appear as a SCSI drive, which means you can’t use the Western Digital version of Acronis to clone the drive as it does not recognize the SCSI emulated disk as WD. To be honest, I forget if this one worked with WD or not, but once I got an enclose that Acronis recognized I started the clone process that was very fast. However half way through Acronis blue screened, windows rebooted into Repair mode (without asking permission) and then to my horror the system wouldn’t reboot and windows reported it couldn’t repair my source drive! I checked from the repairs rescue contact prompt and C: was gone. Thank God for Chat GPT that suggested some commands to run which rebuild and then repaired my C: drive, it reported corruptions in just 3 files, all thankfully unwanted video files. I tried again and exactly the same thing happened at the same point.

In the past I’ve had great results using Samsung SSD’s so I switched to that and Samsung Magician swiftly completed the clone perfectly. The enclosure didn’t even get warm to the touch, despite the intensive cloning. It had a clamshell type lid which is superior to the sliding design of several other enclosures and the extra size of the lid and fins make s huge difference. Very happy. The WD got hot in other enclosures, but this Samsung SSD lowered the temperature of my laptop drive from typically 55 degrees down to 39. So even though the WD has a slight edge on performance, it comes at the cost of extra heat and maybe long term reliability.

It’s not quite tool free, and the supporting screw takes a few seconds to figure out (the SSD is supported by the groove in the screw head, the instructions can leave you thinking it screws down in the SSD board).

This enclosure worked as fast as my 3 year old Dell Precision Thunderbolt ports could go, but if you have the latest Thunderbolt 5 ports, you can get an enclosure that will go faster. However, for my needs , cloning 2TB in about 30 mins is much faster than I feared it might be.
