This is a convenient and 'portable' strip shredder, which, as the name suggests, shreds A4 sized paper, or less, in strips, rather than cross shreds. So, if you’re more security conscious, or just like to obliterate your paperwork, this is not the tool for you as the strips are 6mm wide.

It’s dead easy to operate and it can be supported by a sturdy cardboard box, or simply placed over the opening of your kitchen bin to support the sides of the shredder. That way the shredded paper can be caught by your chosen container. It’s also really useful that it can be extended to sit across larger spaces, should you wish.

Anyway. It's mains operated so on first use I plugged it in, the blue light lit up, and I switched the machine to ‘auto’. I took one sheet of brand new standard photocopier paper and the machine quickly feed it through and shredded most of it very quickly, only to chew up the remainder of the page, leaving strips of crunckled paper clogged between its teeth.

Okay. I unplugged it, removed any paper I could visibly see and I had no alternative but to manually pick every bit out with the tweezers provided by the supplier (nice touch, but the tweezers were useless, to be honest. The ends are very soft and bent without any force applied. Reverse mode only made matters worse too).

I resumed my test by repeating the exercise and the same thing happened again, but this time I noticed the paper was ‘sticky’. Perhaps a little over greased teeth in the factory? Who knows.

Not one to give up easily, I tried for a third time. Finally, success! I’m pleased (and hugely relieved) to report it actually worked as I would expect a strip shredder should. The single sheet of paper travelled through the teeth smoothly and quickly without a hitch, leaving no paper behind at all. I built up to the maximum number of sheets permitted to push it to its limits - again, all worked perfectly. Tried with several printed sheets, and these were shredded okay too. No overheating and no paper stuck in the workings on any of my subsequent shredding sessions.

With the exception of my initial frustration caused by the initial 'teething' problems, the machine actually works well. It’s almost as good as my trusted old cross-shredder, but this new one is much lighter in comparison which makes it easier to store and carry to the room I wish to use it in. Smaller to store too.

I’m quite happy to continue using it, mainly because of the convenience it offers, but I guess only time will tell on its longevity.

It was advertised as jam proof (no way). It says on it 7 sheets max i dare not do more than 2 as it then cloggs up.
Tweezers provided therefore the manufacturer expected this to happen.
Im only shredding normal thickness A4.
