- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 April 2022Armour of God is an action packed Jackie Chan movie from 1986. The film sees Chan playing the "Asian Hawk" Jackie and Alan Tam as his clumsy pal. Together they are searching for Lorelei (Rosamund Kwan) after she is kidnapped by an evil religious cult. Their demands are simple, they want the remaining pieces of the "Armour of God" or she dies.
As a movie, I found it quite light hearted and very quick paced. I had a good number of laughs at the relationship of Jackie and Alan. Their bromance as they bicker and fight between themselves over Lorelei is great fun and is a nice contrast with the heavy hitting action sequence, of which there are many. I wouldn't say it was the best of Jackie's '80s output but it is a lot of fun and really holds up well, I think.
This movie was released mid '80s when Jackie Chan was releasing classics like Project A part I and II, Police Story, Wheels on Meals etc. This period of Chan's career could be considered his physical peak. He not only looked fantastic but he was still fast, agile and could take the horrendous bumps that the stunts demanded of him. This can be seen in the many fantastic action sequences in Armour of God, one of which caused permanent injury and nearly killed him. Those looking for classic stunt master Jackie Chan will be right at home here.
The 88 Films collector's edition is very similar to the previously released, The Young Master. It's a typical bluray case, a thick book and poster housed in a sturdy out shell. The art work for which is great by the way. The first disc contains a 2k remaster of the original Hong Kong cut (ninety eight minutes). There's quite a lot of audio options including the original 2.0 Cantonese mono, a theatrical and home video mix, as well as mix language 2.0 and English 2.0 and 5.1. There's also a lot of audio commentary, interviews, outtakes and such. The second disc contains the International Cut (eighty eight minutes). This version is in English only and has hard of hearing subtitles.
I'll assume that big Jackie Chan fans have bought this already, but if they haven't, it's a great purchase. It's not his most exciting movie but it's definitely in there with his better material. The bonus features are fantastic and are well worth adding to your collection. It may be a bit pricey but if you're a fan, it shouldn't a bother. Even better if you can get it on sale.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 June 2022Now I have both movies.
This is a very nice deluxe set. Worth any collector having in their collection.
This isn't Jackie Chan's best movie but at ?15 I could hardly refuse that.
Packed full of extras and a poster you'll be mad not to buy it. I would highly recommend for any collector.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 April 2024Great film. Used to watch this with subtitles and it was hilarious. Wasn¡¯t expecting an English voice over - spoils it a bit. However it¡¯s Jackie Chan in what I think is his best film, so love the action scenes, even though the comedy is ruined by the voice over.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 April 2016For those of you who are familiar with the Hong Kong and Japanese releases of this film will know that they are upscaled (not true HD).
This edition by Mediumrare is actually true HD, it does look at little soft due to DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) being used. Colour and brightness are also greatly improved.
This the full uncut version with a running time of 1:38:30.154. The English dub end credits music is Alan Tam's Lorelei, not Jackie Chan's Flight of the Dragon which was on the UK VHS release by VPD.
Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video / 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9.
Audio options: English dub 2.0, 5.1 and Cantonese 2.0, 5.1 (2.0 audio track is downmixed).
Subtitles; English
The Blu-ray is locked to region B.
Special Features;
Jackie Chan Interview 4:25 (SD)
Willie Chan Interview 4:02 (SD)
UK Promotional Trailer 01:31 (SD)
Original Theatrical Trailer 4:05 (SD)

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 May 2023Finally found the
Movie with the original English dubbing which is far superior to the latest updated dubbing in my opinion.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 August 2023Amazing fight scenes
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 June 2017Hunted this for ages and finally find it and to top it off it's released in both Blu Ray and DVD for a reasonable price. If you love Jackie Chan's mix of comedy, adventure, stuntwork and Martial Arts, this is one film you must see. This is the film that nearly killed Jackie. Fell from a tree, nearly died and what does he do once he's back filming, only goes and skydives onto a hot air balloon. Balls of pure steel.
