Product description
Please note this title is also released in USA and Canada.
Another cult classic from the Shaw Brothers Studio, The Flag of Iron is a quintessential Hong Kong tale of rivals, betrayal and family feuds. When the master of the Iron Flag clan is killed by a mysterious assassin known only as Spearman, it sets off an explosive chain of events which pits two brothers against each other in an action-packed adventure of fist flying fury.
Directed by Chan Cheh (The One-Armed Swordsman, Five Venoms), this kinetic and highly influential Kung Fu picture, mixes traditional storytelling with more modern presentation techniques, layering acrobatics, the use exotic weaponry and quick as lightening fight sequences to produce a sure fire entertaining hit, which no serious collector of martial arts movies can be without.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 August 2022This movie was a pleasant surprise. This i would highly recommend for any Martial Arts Collector. The kung fu is very good in this movie and also the transfer is very good.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 August 2014An expert of the floating snake style (Chang Yi) terrorizes the martial arts community, destroying the lives of all those who refuse to follow him.An elderly barber and monkey style expert befriends a young man who's eager to learn kung fu.As their friendship grows the old man teaches his student monkey style as they prepare to face the deadly floating snake style master. This is a great film that's packed full of great action and features another excellent performance from legendary bad guy Chang Yi as the master of the floating snake style. There's also a great soundtrack lifted from the spaghetti western Day of anger aka Gunlaw (1967).Please note this review is for the film not the dvd,I have a custom version which is widescreen and uncut. Thanks for reading and I hope that you enjoy the film.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 February 2015Okay
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 August 2022I bought this movie to add to my shaw bros blu ray collection.
Compared to other movies in the shaw's catalogue monkey kung-fu was not up to par.
There are a couple decent fights (and there are lots) but most of them start for little to no reason at all and feel forced.
The plot is weak and some of the dialogue in the dubbed version is awful.
Plus points.
As with the other releases from 88 films the movie does look amazing and the extras are top notch.
The booklet and double sided poster are awesome..especially the artwork done by Kung-Fu Bob.
Without these I would have given the actual movie 2 stars,
But as a whole package it deserves 3 stars.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 May 2022I enjoyed this film but it is not a favourite of mine compared to others. Well worth watching.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 April 2008Easily the worst kung fu film I have ever seen. Nothing that makes a classic kung fu film is present here. The fighting is bad, the acting is bad, the plot is bad. If you like classic kung fu, buy films like Shaolin & Wu-Tang, 10 Tigers of Shaolin, Fatal Flying Guillotine, 8 Diagram Pole Fighter, 3 Evil Masters, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin etc.
This is not even one of those films that is so bad it's funny, just avoid it!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 August 2021There are two great Monkey Kung Fu films: Lau Kar Leung's excellent 'Mad Monkey Kung Fu' and this, lesser know effort from 'five Superfighters' director Lo Mar. The first thing to point out about Monkey Kung Fu is that it stars Ching Siu-Tung, someone who is far better known as a director. You do wonder why he didn't make more films though because he has the charm and ability here to have gone on to bigger things. Second thing to mention is the fight action which is, in a word, blistering. There's a short early fight in a prison that is incredible - really one of the best under the Shaw Brothers banner. The characters are good here with the two unlikely allies having a The Good, the Bad & the Ugly vibe going on here. The thing that costs it one star is the fact that, in the third quarter, it loses its way and throws in some perfunctory fights to pad things out - a sure sign that things are losing steam. It's a shame as this is so very nearly an all time classic. Nevertheless, it's 4 1/2 stars in my book and another must see film.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 June 2015The monkey kungfu in this old skool classic is pretty neat though the story is formulaic and made worse by the bad dubbing and poor picture quality.
I wish Rick Baker and the founders of Hong kong legends would produce a clear picture upgrade in original cantonese with the Hong Kong Legend trademark excellent english subtitles, picture and sound!
This goes for all the other old skool classics that top the list at Hong Kong Legends and Eastern Heroes !
For those new to the scene, Hong Kong Legends and Eastern Heroes were companies set up by fans of classic kungfu movies, to re-introduce kungfu classics to a UK in the 90s. They released some really great titles, remastered with picture sound upgrades and in cantonese with great english subtitles.
Would really love it if they would do the same for the classic Chen Kwan 'Iron Monkey', Cliff Lok specials like 'Kung Fu Genius etc', and most of the classics they relesed on VHS under the Eastern Heroes label and subsequently on dvd under the Vengeance Label.
Some of their best upgrades which are collectibles today are
- Snake Deadly Act ( widescreen special edition VHS only - the dvd version uses an old print )
- Hitman in the Hand of Buddha ( as above )
- The Victim ( as above)
- Jet Li's classic Shaolin Temple trilogy
- Magnificent Butcher
- Prodigal Son
- Warriors Two
- The Odd couple
- Ninja in Dragon's Den
- The Legendary Fighter
- Bruce Lee classic movies
- New wave classics e.g. Iron Monkey, Once upon a time in China etc

1.0 out of 5 stars schlechte Qualit?t - unbekannter Film

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS DVD IS NOT "Monky Kung Fu/³ö»\ñRòt" 1979 Shaw Brothers!
ÍøÆغÚÁÏ has the DVD for this linked to the 1979 Shaw Brother movie on their Prime Movies, but this is a completely different one.
I bought this used, thinking it was "Monkey Kung Fu" aka "A Stroke of Death" with Director John Law Ma. The DVD arrived early, was clean and working, but the case was damaged (I wasn't fussed as it's a used product). The real problem, though, is that this is an entirely different movie than what it's advertised as by ÍøÆغÚÁÏ. What I have is a DVD of "Monkey Fist Floating Snake" aka "Monkey Kung Fu" made in 1980 with Director Law Chi by the Sky Melody Films Company. ÍøÆغÚÁÏ needs to change the DVD linked to their Prime Video, as this is a disappointment to pay for.
Do not buy this item unless you are interested in the "Monkey Kung Fu" made in 1980 by the Sky Melody Film Company!

3.0 out of 5 stars Monkey Kung Fu: Monkey Fist, Floating Snake
It is very comical. If you love comedy kung fu than you would love this movie. The fighting is good although it is alot of humor in it.
