ROBOTRIX DELUXE COLLECTORS ED BD

Robotrix

Deluxe Collector's Edition

From the heady days of early 90s Hong Kong exploitation cinema comes Robotrix, a hi-octane, fast and furious science fiction romp, packed with glorious action sequences and bonkers plotlines. When evil inventor Ryuichi Sakamato (Chung Lin) transfers his mind into that of a powerful cyborg, he becomes a murderer. But when one of his victims, Police officer Selena Lin (Chikako Aoyama) becomes super robot Eve-27, she teams up with android sidekick Ann (Amy Yip) and together they seek to bring the criminally insane scientist to justice.

Like a crazy mix of The Terminator (1981), The Power Rangers and of course, Robocop (1987) Robotrix, combines the mad doctor movie with extreme martial arts to deliver a sexy, seductive, bionic tale of desire and violence given a uniquely Asian futuristic spin.

I had never heard of this before the 88Films bluray was announced but I seem to be forever finding out about hong kong films that have a big reputation that have never come to my attention before. Now it's fully uncut, the dvd version from almost a decade ago was still heavily censored and the current american amazon prime version is also heavily cut and the film is pretty nasty in places but all this long history of censorship still surprises me. It's as much action comedy as it is a Category III shocker. There's a great scene of a guy using a suitcase to rip another man's head off!

I do wish the two robot girls killed the bad guy at the end because surely it's their film (similar disappointment with Erotic Ghost Story), and wish Aoyama had kept all her memories. There's a lot to be said about Cat III films being alternately progressive and regressive but I guess action heroines were pretty normal in HK films and it maybe didn't seem as big a deal to have supporting male actors save the day.

Hard to explain why this film has occupied my mind so much, I'm sure many would consider it disposable but somehow the sexy action heroine genre means so much more to me now than it did when I was 13. That type of comics, games and anime rarely has any substance or quality, the heroines are usually faceless; this is hardly a deep movie but seeing two glamour models who can act, have some character and can do decent fights (admittedly with lots of doubles) is a rare pleasure. And maybe part of the pleasure is just imagining potential films like this (can Nicolas Winding Refn please do a psychedelic sword and sorcery film with Christina Hendricks rescuing Timothee Chalamet?). Really happy to discover Chikako Aoyama, interesting film cv, as well as trashy genre films she's been in an Oshima film and some other art house films.

The HK Girls With Guns genre really needs to take off on bluray because I've never seen any of them and they look really cool and there's plenty of them. The quarry fight scene reminded of clips I've seen of japanese superheroine gang films and I might need them too.

Crazy film about robot people, superhero robots to protect people, but it’s brilliant fun, silly comedy at times, but that what helps to make these films fun, great to see it for the first time, 5 stars

Except a bonkers plot, loads of comedy and some Kung fu for good measure. However it must be said as with other Hong Kong category three films. This movie does include nudity, sex and some violence. So baring this in mind robotrix is therefore not suitable for children.

Lots of fun to be had here for the "discerning gentleman" - ahem! - but I would like to know if this is the uncut version.

Japanese sci-fi is, well Japanese sci-fi. Bonkers plot over the top martial arts fighting extreme gore ultra violence and extremely beautiful women who sometimes lose parts of their clothing, limbs or both and depending on budget/era good to cheesy set's and effect's.

Nice little film, worth 3.5 rather than 3 though. Take Terminator and Robocop and give it the CAT III treatment, et voila

My only gripe is the casting of Amy Yip. As she did in Erotic Ghost Story, Miss Yip declined to do any real nudity; yes, another Yip Tease. Don't get me wrong, she got naked but showed absolutely nothing, yet the other 2 main female leads were fine with flashing some skin. Honestly, why cast an actress in a role like this when she refuses to do any real nudity? Directors who continued to cast Amy Yip in my opinion put a dampener on films like this. This is the same reason I dropped my rating for Erotic Ghost Story

This review is for the movie and the 88Films Collectors Blu-ray Boxed set.

    PLOT...
A mad scientist transfers his mind to a wicked robot, which then embarks on a program of kidnaping, rape and murder, during which a female detective is killed. To fight the robot, the police woman's corpse is then made into a robotrix.

Robotrix 1991 is a crazy Cantonese action sci-fi, a brilliant movie that's incredibly cheesy but so much fun from beginning to end, a top cast, great action and effects and just pure adult entertainment from back in the day! The story steals elements of The Terminator and Robocop and adds some erotica to the mix and crazy Kung-Fu fights, the action and fight scenes are great, it has everything from car chases, over the top robot fights, some good bloody violence at times and lots and lots of beautiful naked girls, sex, rape and more naked girls!! They really crammed in as much as possible to get that category III (18+) rating. The cast is all good, the soundtrack goes well with the movie and the budget appears pretty decent with some cool sets and fun effects. This movie is so obscure but totally entertaining and well worth picking up if you love old cult movies!!

The 88Films Blu-ray look amazing in HD
Features include a commentary, some alternate scenes 9mins, and trailers.
    Region B. Running time 98mins UNCUT. 1991/2021
Cantonese Language with English Subtitles, Dubbed English language which is not too bad.
The limited edition hard-box is amazing, beautiful art front and back, you get 6 quality postcards, a double sided poster, a beautiful 80page book with everything you need to know about the movie.
Reversible sleeve, This is one of the best 88Films releases in a while.

Wundervolle Edition aus UK. Kleiner HK Cat 3 Kultstreifen.

Out of control guilty pleasure film. Not for everyone but it’s a keeper to add to the collection. Absolutely great packaging from 88 Films also. To fans of this genre, highly recommend.
