Product description
Starring Chow Yun-fat (Hard Bolied, The Killer, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) The Seventh Curse is a curious entry from Golden Harvest, the legendary production company which had previously bought us the stone cold Bruce Lee classics, Way of the Dragon, Fist of Fury and Enter the Dragon. When Dr Yuen (Chin Siu-ho) attempts to rescue a girl about to be sacrificed by the Worm Tribe in the middle of a Thailand jungle, he is damned with seven ‘Blood Curses’. Though he finds a temporary antidote this will only last a year and he must return to the jungle to find a permanent cure. The Seventh Curse is an adventurous story of lost tribes and deadly magic. Featuring strange locales, evil sorcerers and monsters, this bonkers thrill fest is a rollicking Asian oddity, a must for collectors of exotic Hong Kong cinema.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 February 2024First time I ever seen this film, is good fun, Maggie Chueng, is great in my opinion, good action, and typical 1980s speacil effects, great to see back, for people to buy, 5 Stars
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 August 2023its so good to see companies such as 88 films and eureka bringing out some classic and in this case underrated hong kong action movies. the picture quality is brilliant and the extras and great. shame i didn;t know about this release sooner as i would have loved to get the deluxe version. but this single disc version is still brilliant. the film its self is action packed and has some great set pieces.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 June 2024This is a crazy movie with lots of action so can't ask for more than that good picture and audio quality to.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 August 2024I took a chance with this movie, it wasn't something I'd already seen years ago. The risk was probably small (its the same director as Story of Ricky!), and the gamble paid off! There are 2 cuts of the movie, both are apparently "uncut" and it seems the "Hong Kong cut" includes some extra story scenes & a prologue. Oddly there are no end credits, just a black screen with credits music! I really enjoyed this adventure thrill ride though.
In some ways this movie is actually even more bonkers than the undisputed Story of Ricky, but it is vastly broader in setting & scope. An adventure/horror/kung-fu movie that doubles down on all 3 genres with almost no slowdowns. The variety of locations (cities, jungles, caves, temples) really open the experience out and they often look beautiful at night with the movies trippy lighting.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 June 2022An adventurous Doctor from Hong Kong afflicted with a soon to be fatal "blood curse" must travel back to Northern Thailand where he was hexed to find a cure with just days left to live.
It sure packs in a lot during its unfortunately short runtime - fight sequences, shoot-outs, whacky witchcraft, demonic monsters, deadly traps, gruesome gore and some gratuitous nudity! It's a hugely eventful ride and has the feeling of a scaled down Indiana Jones adventure but for adults. The film could have done with being fleshed out a bit more as some scenes flash up and end quite abruptly which was a bit jarring on a couple of occasions. Characters also could have done with a bit more development. Chow Yun-Fat's screen time is surprisingly minimal, which unfortunately can't be said for Maggie Cheung's character who's a general pain in the arse throughout... in her own adorable way but still quite annoying. But these grievances in no way spoiled the enjoyment. From the opening hostage siege shoot-out to the climactic explosive finale with a Xenomorph looking demon, I was thoroughly entertained throughout. The splattering of gory effects always go down well with me and the practical effects, though not always convincing and sometimes hilarious, are always appreciated and preferred over souless CGI. I was truly in my element.
As expected an excellent package has been compiled from 88 Films. Love the artwork across the whole set and really looking forward to diving into the 80 page book. The transfer on the Blu-ray is really very nice on both the 80 minute and 83 minute cuts of the film. It's definitely a recommended purchase, especially if you have enjoyed previous 88 Films released titles like Black Magic 1&2, Hex and Seeding of a Ghost.

PLOT...
When Dr Yuan attempts to rescue a girl about to be sacrificed by the Worm Tribe in the middle of a Thailand jungle, he is damned with seven 'Blood Curses'. Though he finds a temporary antidote this will only last a year and he must return to the jungle to find a permanent cure.
Released in 1986 The Seventh Curse is an absolutely Crazy and very fast-paced Hong Kong action/adventure/fantasy/horror/comedy that seems to dip its toe into almost every genre. A very cool movie with a great story and a quality cast, the movie has a fantastic budget with non stop action, martial arts and fights, shoot-outs, monsters, evil wizards, magic and walking skeletons and beautiful Asian women with a splash of nudity, lots of crazy stunts and all filmed on amazing looking sets and locations, if you love these crazy obscure Hong Kong movies then this is a must especially as 88Films have released it in absolutely their best package yet! Great to see these old long lost cult classics get such great treatment, a must for the collection, these movies are so much more fun and imaginative than anything today.
The Blu-ray picture quality looks amazing in HD.
Features include 2 commentaries, 2 trailers and 2 interviews lasting 2hrs 21mins.
Region B. Running time English version 80mins, Hong Kong version 83mins. 1986.
Cantonese with English subtitles.
Comes in an amazing rigid box-sleeve with Blu-ray with reversible sleeve, a nice big double sided poster an amazing colour 80 page book and 6 lobby cards. Beautiful package indeed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfectible

1.0 out of 5 stars attention!
ce dvd est en version cantonaise et non en français comme indiqué dans la description du produit.par contre,le sous-titrage est effectivement en français ,ce qui reste tout de même désagréable à regarder.pour cette raison,je suis donc très décu par cet achat.
