- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 November 2024Star Wars has become rather busy in the last several years. Between movies, games and Disney+ series, it's getting harder to keep up with all the Star Wars related content.
I won't pretend I've watched everything. I'm a big fan of the movies and I previously enjoyed the Obi Wan Kenobi series. This series - Ahsoka - really surprised me. I enjoyed it a lot.
Since there are already many reviews of the show itself online, I'm not going to go into detail. But I will say that as a Star Wars fan, I thoroughly recommend it. Prior knowledge of Rebels and The Mandalorian is helpful in setting up the characters and their motivations, but there's no essential viewing required in order to enjoy this series. I say this as someone who hasn't gotten around to watching either of the aforementioned shows.
Anyway, I'm going to focus more on the product itself, since - prior to buying it - I struggled to find information on this particular release.
Firstly, note that the cover art is different on the DVD you'll receive compared to the one shown on the product listing. The DVD features a large picture of Ahsoka on the front.
The back of the box has a fairly brief description of the show and some images from the series. It says region 1 on the box, but the DVDs are in fact region free. Overall, it's a pretty nice presentation.
Inside the box, you'll find three DVDs. There's a total of 8 episodes spread across these and no special features. DVDs are clearly labelled Disc One, Two and Three and all feature the same artwork as the front cover.
Menus are very basic. No music, just a still image and options for 'Play All' and 'Episodes'. Though there's no 'Chapter Select' menu, you CAN actually skip between chapters using your remote. Similarly, even though there isn't a menu for subtitles, subtitles are available! You simply need to turn them on with your remote. All in all, not too shabby.
Regarding picture quality, it's a mixed bag. Obviously the show aired on Disney+ in UHD. This release - unsurprisingly - doesn't deliver that same level of picture clarity. However, it's not bad. A little pixilated in parts - especially if viewed up close - but I've definitely seen worse.
Hopefully you find this review helpful.

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 November 2024Ahsoka was a genuinely decent little Star Wars spin-off, Rosario Dawson is excellent as always. I just don't understand why anyone thinks this is worth £5 per episode, that's insane! There is still a physical media market, it cannot continue with pricing like this.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 December 2024The Star Wars Ahsoka Season 1 4K UHD Steelbook series is excellent, it expands the Star Wars universe with characters that were previously unknown and disconnected except for the cameo of C-3PO from the main films of the Skywalker saga. The series is well done, although in some places it appears a little weak and it is clear that these are all secondary characters, a real Jedi is missing and in fact they find a narrative subterfuge to introduce Anakin Skywalker being the master or rather Anakin Skywalker's attempt to be Ahsoka's master in the flashback of Ahsoka's past. Ahsoka however proves to be a valid Jedi and Rosario Dawson's acting seems well done. However, the other characters such as Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla and Shin Hati seem a little less successful to me, weak in characterizing them, the actresses did a mediocre or rather sufficient job. While for Ezra Bridger, the actor Eman Esfandi is totally insufficient, he seems like a caricature of the Jedi. Special mention truly an exceptional performance by an actor instead for Ray Stevenson, his fallen Jedi is superb and majestic, truly sad to never see an actor like that again. While Hayden Christensen has lost some of his brilliance over the years since he made Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith as a boy, he is still a credible actor, however I would have applied the filter to rejuvenate his features. To buy for the acting performance of Rosario Dawson and especially Ray Stevenson. However, I believe that the series will continue with a second season. But who the hell are these dark mothers?
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 November 2024Why do Disney continue to take the p##s of Star Wars fans by putting such a high price on this mediocre series that really had nothing to write home about!
Whilst it was worth 1 viewing on Disney+ it doesn't deserve another.. even with the appearance of Hayden Christiensen as Anakin Skywalker
