Hard to say goodbye
In the fourth and final season of this excellent animated Star Wars series we see the heroes Ezra, Sabine and Kanan joining the Rebels on the familiar planet Yavin 4. While inquiring about a secret, mysterious Imperial weapon at Lothal they run into my old favourite Imperial villain Grand Admiral Thrawn! My children’s most favoured hero(ine) remains Sabine, who plays a big role throughout the season. And to their excitement there were also plenty of Mandalorians. The 16-episode season is tremendous, and quite entertaining. Everything was pulled out leading to a spectacular finale. My children are big fans of the series’ characters that display the same bondage and agitation that contributed to the success of the original movie trilogy. And throughout the seasons the lore and familiar heroes / villains are mixed with new characters. The last few episodes gradually wrap up all the different character arcs and manage tie off the remaining loose ends. However they also start to form the bridge with the wider Star Wars saga in a sense that Rebels shows you the early stages of the rebellion and how that ties into Rogue One.If you haven't seen Star Wars Rebels, you should of course start with Season 1. Even more than the Clone Wars animated series it benefits from solid, creative storylines and impressive graphics and animation. Shame the series came to an end but it arguably did so on a high. And this bodes very well for future Star Wars animated series.Like all Star wars material we bought the series in Blu-Ray format that looks very sharp and crisp. The discs contain a handful set of special features offering a great deal of insight into the show’s storytelling. There are some fairly useless "Rebels Recon" episode recaps, from YouTube. But the commentaries with producer Filoni on six episodes are interesting.

Star Wars: Rebels is a soon to be classic, with the likes of the Clone Wars series. Since the Clone Wars series has now Officially been discontinued, Rebels will be the the only ones you can get as of right now before Disney (might) make this show a exclusive for their streaming platform (Disney+). So I suggest you buy this as soon as you can, since that is what has happened to the Clone Wars.

Seperate from the quality of this show (More details on that below), I only have one gripe, which is the condition the discs arrived in. Some scrapes and smudges on them. While I bought all four of the seasons, this season for some reason, didn't have the wrapping around it unlike the other ones. But that's my only issue.

Rebels takes on the events of what happens after the Clone Wars. This show introduces brand new characters, some old ones too, with a new story that can be gripping and intense at specific moments. If you're a Star Wars fan, you'll love this. The best part about this show is that it takes on a more "easy on the eyes" approach for younger kids to watch, so feel free to bring your whole family along for a wild ride in this epic and fun show. You will not be disappointed.

I love this series. One of the things I love so much about Star Wars is way everything is connected. The books, the comics, the movies and the series. I did wonder about certain things from this series but everything has a place and to quote the Rebel Recon

    "Filler? There is not filer"

Everything from previous seasons is tied up and everything and the movies as well, and even from the Clone Wars series. There are big action packed battle arcs, slower story arcs and everything is explained but still leaving me wanting more. There were a couple of time I was wondering whee the story was going but the finale brings it all together.

The character development is great. Characters facing their destiny and others finding out there is still more for them to do. The only character I am not 100% convinced of is Thrawn. If I just go bywhat I know about Thrawn from season 3 of rebels, there is not much change to his character, but from the books Thrawn was less cold blooded, and seemed to be following his own agenda and served the Empire while perusing this. In the Rebels season he seems to be a complete imperial zealot as cold and as he is brilliant. However it seems he might have another role to play.

If a series can make me a bigger fan of something I am super fan of it has to be great, and that is exactly what this series has done. It is just bitter sweet that it had to end.

When it started, Rebels was fun, clearly aimed at kids and the subject matter was quite light, considering that we are talking about a street urchin who has lost his parents to the Empire. As the seasons have progressed though, the themes have got darker, the stories more emotive and the characters have evolved into something truly beautiful.
I very much doubt that when Lucas Film released Rebels, they were aiming it at the adult viewer, yet for many episodes of this final season, I forgot that I was watching a kids show. The emotional content of the show was hugely powerful and I am not ashamed to admit to tears every now and again. The final episode was utterly beautiful, the story telling was perfect and there is the scope for them to come back to the story at some point in the future. This show has everything that we loved about the original Star Wars, but with more heart and soul added in. With themes of personal sacrifice for the good of others and the benefits of democracy, this is a show for all ages and one that will give a deeper understanding as the viewer reaches adulthood. Well recommended.

This DVD concludes the Rebels series, on the content I can say only that's a good but sad story like those on books that you'll remember for years; the only defect is related to the languages available: season four of Rebels was translated and doubled in some languages like Italian, and I really don't understand the policy to not sell also the Italian version of this DVD, as made before by Disney, Italy is totally forgotten.
