I got this as I wanted a way of having my flash held higher of camera rigging. Having other parts from Small rig has allowed me to create a modular camera rig which allows me to easily move things and add things. This magic arm is simply wonderful and a great addition!

The arm itself has a super premium, all metal design to it which looks just amazing. The arms have been bead blasted and have this super lucious feel to them when holding. The arms have been milled down into these beautiful flowing pieces of metal which elevate the look of a setup. The teeth on the central clamp are sharp and precise.

The two ends sport ball heads with quick release plates. These ball heads are 'magically' stopped by the central handle in the middle. This means with one handle twist, the whole using can be moved about, super useful when needing to move the light and then tighten it down in a new spot for the next shot. The ball head, quick release, the plate are all made of well finished metals. These all have a decent heft to them and feel premium in both fit and finish. The button on the side is stiff but with just enough give to make whatever is attached feel sturdy.

Overall, I am blown away by how good this arm is. Everything about it is quality. The metals used are superb, the finishing of all the parts are that of iPhone or better level. If I could give this 6/5 I would! Amazing!

To create an articulation which has so many degrees of freedom of movement but still have a single thumbscrew to tighten is nothing short of genius in my opinion.

These very tactile arms have a main elbow with 24 positions (15 degree increments). In addition, the hot shoe/cold shoe slides can go in either way and the housing for the hotshoe rotates through 360 degrees. Each hotshoe house can also be in "portrait" or "landscape" with the ball head offering an additional up to 90 degree articulation in addition to each housing having a 360 ball end.

Overall, I think you'll be hard pressed to find a compound angle or position that this thing can't reach.

The arms are cast metal and internally machined to what are clearly tight tolerances as the mechanism is smooth to adjust.

The 1/4" 20tpi (camera standard) bolts use a 4mm hex head and these can be removed entirely to give a 1/4" 20tpi threaded hole for mounting on a standard tripod thread or similar. To do this, you may need to remove the anti-rotation pins using a 1.5mm hex wrench/Allen key which is a matter of seconds to remove. Just make sure you have a good hold on them and somewhere safe to secure them for future use.

TL,DR;
Just another example of how good SmallRig manufacturing is.

I must admit I was a bit sceptical prior trying this hawk shape magic arm.
Despite being advertised as suitable for devices up to 3 kg. I wasn’t entirely sure it will hold in place such a heavy item.
I gave it a try with my rather heavy camera ,the magic arm proved that it can hold it up with no problem.
Unlimited angles ,easy adjustable while it locks into the desired position.
Made out with high quality materials ,you can feel how robust and strong this magic arm really feels when holding it.
No complains so far. It works as it should.

SmallRig has always had good quality for its price. This arm is a great example of how they have advanced to exceptional quality and a great price. There are a lot of design details put into this arm making it versatile as well as rock solid. The square quick release can slide in from any side giving you tremendous ease for connecting and positioning. It also happens to be the same size as a NATO rail, adding to your connection options. The anti-twist pins are a must for me on monitor mounts, but occasionally I'll want to mount other things. Having the ability to pull these twist pins off gives me more options. The stability when locked is very impressive. There is no give at the ball heads or the knuckle. Strong and versatile.
