I would even say a little too firm. But I am not docking it for that because I have been using it with a lighter mic. When you mount a heavier monitor, I'm sure the firm angle adjustments will make more sense. The knob only affects the vertical adjustment, and you need to use one of the allen wrenches for the swivel tension. It is tricky to get any kind of real tension adjustment out of the tilt. It seems like it only goes from "really firm" to "locked." The mounting plate won't even begin to slide into the receiver if the button is not pressed. But once it is in there it does not wiggle at all. As far as mounting it to your hotshoe, I really like that the knob has holes in it that one of the included allen wrenches fit into. It is also a little wider than standard knurled knobs, so it is a little easier to hold onto by hand.
The finish is great. More gunmetal tones, so it may bridge the look of your rig if you are mixing silver and black components.
You can see that the tilt is not actually 180 degrees. It is ALMOST 180 in either direction. Probably won't ever be an issue, and I'm sure they didn't want to mess with the marketing to have to say "176 degree tilt" or whatever it is.
I love SmallRig gadgets. The quality of this one does not disappoint.
