Product description

Action adventure sequel which sees Chris Hemsworth reprise his role as the Marvel Comics superhero Thor, based on the mythical Norse God of Thunder. After the events of 'Marvel Avengers Assemble' (2012), Earth and the Nine Realms come under attack from the powerful Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) and his age-old army that have existed since even before the creation of the universe. With the enemy proving near impossible to defeat, Thor approaches his adoptive brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) for help, despite his villainous past. Meanwhile, the hero becomes reacquainted with the woman he loves, astrophysicist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), and takes her to Asgard in an attempt to protect her from harm. The cast also includes Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Kat Dennings and Zachary Levi.

Fun sequel and a great visual spectacle.

Fun sequel and a great visual spectacle.
Thor: The Dark World is the second film in Marvel's phase two series of it's cinematic universe. Carrying on from Avengers Assemble The Dark World sees Thor (Chris Hemsworth) having returned to Asgard in an attempt to bring peace to the nine realms after Loki's (Tom Hiddleston) grab for power on Midgard. During this time the realms are aligning in an incredibly rare event known as the convergence. This event brings forth Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) the leader of the last of the Dark Elves who wish to use it to remove light from all the realms.I really liked the Dark World though it's not quite as good as the first film, it really shows how Thor has grown though, how he has matured in his duties. It doesn't have as much character development as a whole however and the leader of the Dark Elves Malekith gets very little development, he's just kind of evil because they want the universe dark. This film has a decent amount of humour and all in the right places and although it uses a lot of characters both on Asgard and on Midgard the pacing of the film is fantastic throughout and I thought the ending was especially brilliant. The acting is great, Chris Hemsworth has really settled into the role of Thor though Tom Hiddleston as Loki simply steals every scene he is in showing his unbalanced emotional state. The guy is just brilliant. The sets and special effects are also superb and really set the scene for the actors, Asgard looks amazing at every moment and the fight scenes have really developed with Thor's move set.The blu-ray itself has a pretty cool menu using an almost sketch art with the core colour of each character. The extras are also pretty decent. A Marvel one shot mini film linking to Iron Man 3, featurettes looking into Thor and Loki, how the music of Thor was made. Not to mention gag reels, commentaries, among other bits.Overall this is a great film that has me excited for Thor 3 that comes with some fun little extras. I always thought Thor would be so difficult to turn into a decent believeable film yet Marvel continue to surprise me.Recommended.+ Tom Hiddleston steals every scene as Loki.+ Great sets and special effects.+ Has excellent humour and pacing.+ Good extras.- Malekith isn't developed enough as a villain.

    Happy with my purchase.

I love all marvel films but my heart lies with Chris Hemsworth. He does tend to get the poorest scripts though. Thor Ragnarock is the best Thor film but if you are like me, I need to have all of them on my shelf.

Very enjoyable and entertaining film with lots of action

Another superhero movie from Marvel studios. Sequel to Thor. Set after Avengers Assemble. All of which may slightly confuse anyone who watches it and who hasn't seen those films. But chances are you will have seen those if you watch this. So that won't be a problem.

    The dvd:

Has the following language and subtitle options:

Languages: English. Hindi. Tamil. Telegu. It's also English audio described.

    Subtitles: English.

It begins with a trailer for forthcoming Marvel movie 'Captain America; The Winter Soldier.' But that can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote. Said trailer is accessible from the sneak peeks section of the dvd main menu anyhow.

The only extras are a preview of said Captain America film. Which runs for three minutes and is one of those featurettes that has clips from the film along with actors and crew members talking about it. This preview does give one spoiler away - the identity of the Winter Soldier - so if you're not familiar with the character via comics then you may not want to watch this just yet.

    The movie:

Loki's locked up. Thor's bringing peace to all the realms. Jane is stuck on Earth pining for him and trying to move on. She finds strange things happening in London. Which all tie in with the return of an ancient evil that seeks to destroy the universe.

To deal with it all, Thor and Loki must team up. Trust issues ensue. Can they work together and save the day?

This, like most blockbuster movies, tries to entertain via mixing action and drama with character moments and humour. In this respect, it's pretty successful. Anthony Hopkins and Rene Russo don't get too much to do but have their moments. The brothers don't have much screen time together till halfway through the film, but there's enough to keep the viewer occupied till then so it's not really a problem.

A lot of the humour does make Thor the straightman in the midst of things going on around him. Chris Hemsworth is pretty good in these moments. He does have a good chemistry with Natalie Portman although her role can be a bit thankless at times. Kat Dennings gets more to do as Darcy this time and once again steals the show. Chris O'Dowd is also good at being humorous without going too far. But doesn't get nearly as much to do.

Christopher Eccleston makes a fine villain in a part that doesn't really stretch him. There's an action finale set piece which benefits from being in a familiar setting and is very well done.

Just don't trust this movie to give you accurate directions for travelling on the London underground though.

Thor will return. A very good final scene does make you want to know what will happen when he does.

An efficient and entertaining blockbuster movie from a studio that are good at making them.

Keep watching during the end credits for two extra scenes. One in the middle, which ties into an upcoming Marvel movie. And one at the very end. Which doesn't set anything up. But is still worth a look.

This was just before the Marvel Clowns took over this series. It is well done, lot's of action, a great story, and you won't turn away. It doesn;t become part comedy as in the later movies, and tells the story. One of my favorite Marvel Universe stories before politics entered their writing
