- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 October 2016CAPTAIN AMERICA: 3 MOVIE COLLECTION [2011 / 2014 / 2015] [3D Blu-ray + 2D Blu-ray] When Patriots Become Heroes! From The Studio That Brought You Avengers Assembly! Divided We Fall!
Triple bill of Superhero action adventure based on the 1940s MARVEL Comics series. ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER’ [2011] finds Chris Evans who stars as Steve Rogers, who volunteers for a top secret military research project after being deemed physically unfit to enlist in the U.S. Army during the Second World War. The experiment transforms him into super-soldier Captain America, who, along with sidekick Bucky Barnes [Sebastian Stan] takes on the mighty power of Hitler's henchman Red Skull [Hugo Weaving].
‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER' [2014] Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson star in this action adventure sequel based on the MARVEL Comics series. Set two years after 'The Avengers' [2012], the film follows superhero Steve Rogers aka Captain America [Chris Evans] who is now living in Washington where he is trying to adjust to modern society. When a fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agent is attacked he teams up with Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow [Scarlett Johansson] to uncover a conspiracy and, with the help of the Falcon [Anthony Mackie], defeat a powerful enemy known as the Winter Soldier [Sebastian Stan]. The cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Cobie Smulders, Dominic Cooper and Emily VanCamp.
‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR' [2016] Steve Rogers stars as the leading the newly formed team of The Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving The Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps — one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for The Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Andrew’s 3D Blu-ray Review: In 2011 MARVEL Studios secured one of the most bankable film studios on the planet, with the first of the trilogy of immense successful ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER’ [2011]. Then with the ninth endeavour for MARVEL Studios, released the very exciting blockbuster ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER' [2014], had a lot to live up to. Then finally they released ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR' [2016].
‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER’ [2011] is the first of these action packed films that delivers everything you expect from such a film. Directed by Joe Johnston, and written by Christopher Marcus and Stephen McFeely, ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER’ is all utility and it has everything you might want from a film of this kind lots of bangs, and plenty of baddies. Chris Evans plays Steve Rogers, a puny kid from Brooklyn whom his Army Colonel [Tommy Lee Jones] later describes as a “90-pound asthmatic” and as a “gerbil”. Steve Rogers’s desperate to fight in Europe, but it’s only when he’s spotted by eccentric doctor Abraham Erskine [Stanley Tucci] that he gets the chance, undergoing a Frankenstein-style operation that turns him from punch-bag homunculus to super-soldier. ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER’ thought of originally as a risqué venture has now faithfully been brought onto the big screen for some great shield-slinging fun. From the moment the film opens a number of elements that Marvel and Joe Johnson, the director, set out to do, the film has to tie in with the ever expanding MARVEL film continuity which it does straight away showing the discovery of the Cosmic Cube, seen in the post credits of ‘THOR’ [2010], and with numerous mentions of Odin. ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER’ manages to play tribute to the mythology of the fictional character with elements of the real world mixed in for fun. Overall the film is very entertaining yet it certainly has its flaws with the overuse of green screen, leaving a slightly hollow feel to some of the environments. The third act is weak in dramatic tension, with no reason for the audience to care too much about the outcome; especially since everyone thought CAPTAIN AMERICA would seemingly die at the end, but instead is just frozen in time. There is a major plot hole in the final confrontation of the film which rips the audience out of the action and what is supposedly the emotional core of the film.
In ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER' [2014], MARVEL’s squeaky-clean hero is reborn in this gritty conspiracy thriller. The film finds Captain America [Chris Evans] still adjusting to life in the present day. After an impressive boat rescue sequence with Black Widow [Scarlett Johansson], and Captain America finds out that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been secretly building a trio of massive Heli carrier ships. Part of an initiative led by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and his colleague Alexander Pierce [Robert Redford], the ships are massive airborne drones designed to be the ultimate deterrent, but they’re also able to analyse personal communications NSA-style, using that information to pre-emptively determine who will commit crimes before they happen. There’s a moment in Captain America: The Winter Soldier when Robert Redford, playing a higher-up at the intelligence agency S.H.I.E.L.D., and says, “That in order to improve things you often need to tear down what’s come before.” The film’s most interesting elements fall away in the final half-hour as it lunges from set piece to set piece, but ultimately these are minor complaints; even at its most conventional there’s no denying this is one of the strongest films MARVEL has released. While Iron Man 3 may have left some wishing for a return to form, the takeaway from ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER' is that change is not only good, it’s absolutely essential. By interpreting an iconic character through modern-day lenses, the Russo brothers have crafted an inspired thriller that transcends superhero films, and given that they’ll be directing the third Captain America where they can take things even further next time. Yes, ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER,' with a menacing Sebastian Stan, is a character in this film, and I will leave out the specifics of why he is linked in particular significance to Captain America. But ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER’ is glorious and flashy, and absolutely essential. By interpreting an iconic character through a modern-day lens, the Russo brothers have crafted an inspired thriller that transcends superhero movies, and given that they’ll be directing the third Captain America hopefully they can take things even further next time. You just need the courage to take some chances.
In the final trilogy, ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR' [2016] is MARVEL's best film so far and the most mature and substantive picture to have yet emerged from the MARVEL Cinematic Universe and can with confidence say that the three films come together to create the greatest super heroes of all time has a better grip on Captain America than any of their heroes. The Russo brothers return with ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR,' pitting two of MARVEL's favourite sons against each other and is an entertaining blockbuster with a few surprising decisions thrown in. Following the Battle of New York, the destruction of Sokovia and numerous other catastrophes indirectly caused by the Avengers, it is decided by the world's governments that these heroes need to be brought into check. The UN and US Secretary of State General Ross [William Hurt] step forward as the ones to do it with a brick of a document dubbed The Sokovia Accord, backed by a war-weary Tony Stark [Robert Downey Jr.] and Captain America [Chris Evans] is immediately suspicious, primarily because he has seen what corrupt powers-that-be can do with super-weapons, namely his war buddy James "Bucky" Barnes [Sebastian Stan]. Each hero picks their side. Scarlet Witch [Elizabeth Olsen], Falcon [Anthony Mackie], Hawkeye [Jeremy Renner] and the aforementioned Winter Solider decide to go rogue after the discovery of a mysterious plot by a former Sokovian solider, Helmut Zemo [Daniel Brühl], to unearth a mysterious covert-op that took place in 1991. Meanwhile, Tony Stark and his loyal band, War Machine [Don Cheadle], Black Widow [Scarlett Johansson], Vision [Paul Bettany] and new addition Black Panther [Chadwick Boseman] decide that Captain America and comrades need to be brought into check. The pitch is simple enough, liberalism or totalitarianism, heroes or vigilantes and it has more than a whiff of American imperialism on both sides of the coin. The Russo brothers manage to navigate the territory to the level the genre demands, bringing back the spy-thriller movie credentials demonstrated in ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR,' and it holds our attention rather than the bombast of the fight scenes. ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR' truly shines when we get extended dialogues, best of all when they include Robert Downey Jr., who again brings his always reliable level of depth to Iron-Man. A particularly fine moment of sees Tony Stark decide that he needs backup in the form of everyone's friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man [Tom Holland], who I found a complete obnoxious jerk and should never have been included in this film, as I can’t see why he was introduced. But on top of that I found Tony Stark/Iron Man very arrogant, thinking he was right and everyone was wrong and of course near the end of the film he is told the truth to his face and hates what has been said to him, as Tony Stark realises he back the wrong side of the Civil War and has to admit he was in the wrong. There are also some credible 'real-world' issues thrown in along the way by screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeel. MARVEL's greatest strength comes to the forefront here: a studio developing from its history, breaking new ground, and preserving its future all at once. Keeping track of who’s who in this superhero multipack poses a challenge, but the screenplay packs a powerful punch. Fortunately, the sharp worded screenplay, by MARVEL regulars Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, hits home almost as frequently as the punches. ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR,' is the Superhero film you have been waiting for, and that is what you call the ultimate MARVEL superhero event and featuring what is arguably the best ever screen depiction of the cool new hero in the form of Black Panther. ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR,' is a Superhero film that lives up to the hype and also explores family, friendship and sacrifice, and reaffirms why it's best in the business and the best film to come out of the MARVEL studios. Despite all the heaviness surrounding the film, those looking for a classic MARVEL experience will not be disappointed, especially if you are banking on seeing some pretty incredible fight choreography, so let the battle commence. The plot is tighter and more plausible than in the ghastly pompous over the top ‘Batman vs. Superman’ film.
Overall, MARVEL Studios have managed to exceed expectations again with these immense successful trilogy that is totally intelligent, suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat political-thrillers that evokes real world fears and issues, in one of the most engaging entries to the MARVEL Studios genre. With some truly stunning action sequences, that gives a captivating performances and an equally brilliant affective music film score by Alan Silvestri and Henry Jackman to go with it. But the biggest bonus for very cool MARVEL fans is this exclusive CAPTAIN AMERICA: 3 MOVIE COLLECTION limited edition 3D Blu-ray + 2D Blu-ray disc triple pack, which features some awesome artwork of the three different shields used by Steve Rogers throughout the trilogy. It is a really eye catching piece of designed imagery, and one which it's actually easy to imagine making for a great poster or piece of wall art.

2D Blu-ray Special Features and Extras:
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER 2D Blu-ray Special Features and Extras:
Audio Commentary by Director Joe Johnston, Director of Photography Shelly Johnson and Editor Jeffrey Ford: Director Joe Johnston, Director of Photography Shelly Johnson, and Editor Jeffrey Ford introduce themselves. They start being totally silly, and go on about the Paramount logo and how spectacular it looks in 3D. This track often goes nowhere fast, but the "insights" found in this audio commentary are totally laughable. There is very little information given out, just a ton of meandering and time wasting, with comments that don't really say a thing. What is this? Is this supposedly an audio commentary, I don’t think so.
Special Feature: Marvel One-Shot: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer [2011] [1080p] [1.78:1] [4:03] Agent Phil Coulson leaves Tony Stark’s lab in Malibu to investigate a situation in New Mexico. Agent Phil Coulson stops at a gas station to fill up his car and, as he tries to decide between which donuts to buy, two armed robbers enter the shop and hold the night clerk at gun point telling her to empty the cash register. Agent Phil reveals himself to the criminals and feigns stupidity, offering to surrender his pistol. However, he tricks them into allowing him to slide it over through the next aisle, and while they are distracted, the agent takes them both down. Agent Phil then casually pays for his donuts and leaves the night clerk staring in awe and recommends that she inform the police that she was the one who subdued the thieves.

03. Steve Rogers' Notebook [2014] [1080p] [1.78:1] [2:26] With this very short feature, Nate Moore [Co-Producer] goes into great detail in taking a closer look at Captain America's notebook, specifically the ways in which the items list that he has written in his notebook is shown differently in various international versions of the film ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER.’

Audio Commentary with Directors Anthony & Joe Russo and Screenwriters Markus & Stephen McFeely: Here first of all everyone introduces themselves and informs us of their involvement in the film. Here we get some average extensive audio commentary, beginning with a discussion of 1970s conspiracy thrillers and their influence on the Captain America sequel. From here on they cover every bit of information that Captain America fans could ever hope for, from information about casting, performances, story development, themes, characters, balancing action, humour, drama, shooting styles, special visual effects, stunt work, fight choreography sequences, editing and the film music score. They all also go into great detail about the ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER’ film and its connection to the MARVEL Cinematic Universe and its connections to other films in the series. This Audio Commentary in general starts to get slightly boring and monotonous.
Theatrical Trailer [2014] [1080p] [2.35:1] [2:25] This is the original Theatrical Trailer for ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy.’ You can view this trailer either in 3D or 2D and is a totally brilliant awesome presentation.

Special Feature: Deleted & Extended Scenes [2016] [1080p] [1.78:1] [7:52] Here you have a selection of five different Deleted and Extended Scenes, which are as follows: Extended Peggy's Funeral; Zemo Meets Doctor Broussard; "You Are Not Used to the Truth" and "Gotta Get Me One of Those." These different clips are shown in Stereo.
Special Feature: Gag Reels [2016] [1080p] [1.78:1] [2:53] This is your typical feature gag reel of outtakes from the film ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR' and we view sometimes very silly outtakes which features the lighter side of your favourite Super Heroes being filmed and goofing around.
Audio Commentary by Directors Anthony & Joe Russo and Screenwriters Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely: MARVEL fans are treated to a full on screen-specific audio commentary track for the film ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR’ by Directors Anthony and Joe Russo and Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. But here we are told that they welcome us to this DVD audio commentary, which already put me off instantly, as how incredibly unprofessional of Paramount Pictures and MARVEL Studios that they could not of redone this audio commentary for this exclusive Blu-ray disc, and already these people talk like nerdy idiots who just talk endless vacuous comments. I felt it was a complete waste of time.
Sneak Peeks: Here you have a selection of two different features, which are as follows:
Theatrical Trailer [2016] [1080p] [2.35:1] [1:57] This is the Original Theatrical Trailer for MARVEL’s ‘DOCTOR STRANGE.’ This is an amazing totally brilliant and spectacular presentation.
MARVEL’s Promotional Film Footage [2016] [1080p] [1.78:1] [2:10] This is a sort of add on promo video showing extra behind-the-scene filming of ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.'
Finally, ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: 3 MOVIE COLLECTION’ is a totally terrific solid entry into the every improving MARVEL Studios Cinematic Universe. The 3D Blu-ray discs offer the strongest and ultimate 3D visual presentation, and you get an equally perfect 2D Blu-ray video presentation extravaganza, and of course a definitive reference audio quality 7.1 Master Audio Surround sounds mixes. The ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: 3 MOVIE COLLECTION’ is a massive fun over the top action packed filled romp, and has also wonderful over the top colourful characters, really excellent good stories to keep you enthralled, and plenty of great USA patriotism done right, not just propaganda and anger-inducing thoughts and images, that is a visual explosion action to keep you on the edge of your seat! Highly Recommended!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 December 2024Not so long ago, Marvel actually made great movies with complex characters and intriguing stories. This trilogy is one of the best they made with the real Captain America we all knew and loved. Great action, acting and adventure that they don't make anymore. Recommended.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 August 2024I’m very happy 😊
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 September 2020Sometimes there's the actor and sometimes there's the role. Iron Man is about the actor, but Captain America is the role.
This is the hero the world needs. As his arc spans WWII through the Cold War until today, unlike the other MCU characters, the changes to his worldview are substantial. His values remain the same – which is his real heroic nature – but how they operate in a complicated, political world is what makes Cap so enduring.
Example – in Civil War, team Iron Man is full of folks who doubt themselves and their ability to use their powers wisely. Cap's team are individuals who accept that burden. Because Stark is part of the establishment, choosing team Cap is high risk – yet those superheroes choose Cap because it is the right thing to do.
Anyway, all three movies are entertaining (as opposed to other MCU trilogies) and have brilliant moments and memorable character development. Yay!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 September 2016The box set is great value with all 3 movies in 3D. The audio language and subtitle options on غ.co.uk however are misleading, the three disks have varying options. I was hoping I would get them all in Spanish to watch with my girlfriend who speaks Spanish, but as you will see, it is hit and miss. This is not of concern for UK buyers who just want English obviously, all is good there.
Here follow the real language options on the disks:

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 August 2019Chris Evans...we see you! You have kept us enthralled and entertained with this amazing trilogy. Unlike the other trilogies in the Marvel series where there has been a dip in sequels (I ain't naming names), this set has been a solid transition. The Russo brothers (along with the brilliant screenplays of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely) have done amazing work in making making you care for The Captain. Proof? Who didn't feel a sense of panic when he stood alone against the might of Thanos in Endgame, just before the "Portals" theme started playing?
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 September 2021What value for money this is at £28 instead of buying them all individually your savimgomey on the boxset which has all three films with 3D. Got this for my son for Christmas as he is obsessed with marvel.
Another marvel film franchise added to the collection plus it adds some more 3D to the collection
