About this item

SMALLRIG 1798: This is the updated version of SMALLRIG 1595. The SMALLRIG base plate 1798 is combined by two SMALLRIG tripod mounting plates with 15 mm rail block. It is more stable and stable for mounting on the bottom of the camera.
15 mm rail blocks: 15 mm rod clamp are available for the 15 mm rod, so you can mount the shoulder pad according to the focus.
Rubber cushion: Built-in rubber cushions on the surface prevent your camera from scratching.
High quality: made of aluminium alloy, the high-quality material. It can be used for a long time.
Attachment points: various 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch threaded holes for mounting material. It can also be attached to the bridge plate for Manfrotto, ARRI Standard or other tripod plate via 1/4 inch threaded holes.

Very well made and the double locking makes the 15mm rails very secure. However, top and bottom plates are identical, i.e.. both designed for 'male' screw attachment. I now need to find or make a base plate with a ' Female' centre tapped hole thus enabling me to attach to a tripod when needed. I wish SmallRig had thought of this and could produce a 'male/ female' mounting system.

Nicely made bit of kit but as with some other reviews I don’t know why there are two male plates? The bottom plate should have female threads to allow you to attach it to a tripod.

Can’t attach it to my Sachtler fluid head because of this.

Given it 3 stars as it’s good build quality it a real oversight to provide two identical plates when you need two different ones

the bottom plate has very difficult mounting options due to being the same as the top plate, i spoke to smallrig and they said this was the new version, i asked for bottom plate from the old version, but they said it was dis-continued,,very dissapointing because can to screw to tripod it is sitting way forward due to no middle screw hole on baseplate, design of this is flawed, they seemed to have just thrown a top plate on the bottom to save designing an actual proper tripod secureing baseplate,,,works but ,,,only just.
