About this item

Compatibility: The SmallRig L-Shape Plate 4523 is designed specifically for Nikon Z 6III cameras. The L-Bracket features a hinge arm at the battery compartment that can be turned outward, allowing for the full opening of the camera battery door to change the battery. Additionally, built-in magnetic double-head screwdriver on the base plate for easy disassembly and installation.
With Cold Shoe Mount: Featuring a cold shoe support block that stabilizes the camera at two points during vertical shooting, ensuring the center of the frame remains stable and prevents distortion of the side plate post-stretching.
Stretchable Side Plate: The side plate can be adjusted within a range of 22.5mm for vertical shooting to allow access to cables, for additional mounting flexibility as needed. NOTE: If you need to access all ports, please pull the side plate first.
Quickly Switch: The base plate and a side plate has a built-in quick-release plate for Arca, which can be directly installed on the tripods for Arca and stabilizers for DJI RS 2/ RSC 2/ RS 3/ RS 3 Pro/ RS4/ RS4 Pro, allowing for swift transitions between stabilizer, tripod, and handheld shooting.
Three-Point Lock: The L-Shape plate is secured to the camera body by a 1/4"-20 screw at the bottom, a locating pin and a camera strap ring to prevent the camera from deflecting and shaking. In addition, silicone pads are built-in at the bottom and the side plates to protect the camera body and prevent scratches.
Multiple Mounting Points: The L-bracket has multiple interfaces include 1/4"-20 threaded holes, cold shoe, QD socket and wrist strap slots, enabling the attachment of accessories like the QD shoulder strap, microphone, tripod 3989/ 4059 for a wide range of shooting scenarios.

There is IMO an obvious design weakness in that the battery cover hinge is exposed forward if not fully closed after changing the battery and may bend easily in use if not fully closed.

It should be possible to make a version WITHOUT a hinge by changing to a suitable slightly shaped continuous base between the battery chamber and lens flange - possible at a lower production cost.

The similar design SMALLRIGG I had for my Z8 failed prematurely from this issue.

The quarter inch attaching screw head is deeply recessed requiring either the special tool provided (if you do not loose it) or a large flat head screwdriver to keep the screw tight over time.

CAUTION when using an Arca-Swiss fitting in portrait position - the portrait mode rail is far from continuous requiring care to ensure a secure fitting.

-little arm that swings out to let battery compartment open is a great feature (somewhere for my pinky to go when hand-holding)
-ability to extend vertical arm out (and to add a cold shoe) is typical of Smallrig’s great industrial design
-absolutely solid when installed

CONS
-none

NOTES
-I frequently plug cables into the left side of my camera during shoots (HDMI and USB-C for power), and the ability to move the vertical element of this L-bracket away from the camera gives _just_ enough room for these cables (I have to use right-angle connectors though).

The SmallRig Model 4523 fits the Nikon Z6_3 perfectly and feels great in my hands. When comparing the weight and feel to my SmallRig for my Nikon Z6_2, it at first felt lighter and a bit cheap but once I attached the L Bracket to the Nikon Z6_3, It was rock solid.

Even though the new Nikon Z6_3 is larger and my pinky finger had a grip on the bottom of the camera but once the L Bracket was attached, it was a nice secure feeling in my hand. It feels perfect in my hand where my pinky is, not like on the grip on the Nikon Z6_2 where there was a slight bump, not flush like the new one that follows the curves on the Z6_3. I believe this is made possible by their new battery door hinge arm also found on the L Bracket on SmallRig version for the Nikon Z8.

Because of the controversial flippy screen, you need to be careful not to damage the screen when having it out and in between the side bracket or the side bracket can be removed it needed. You can get to the connection ports very easily even with the side bracket on and you can attach the cold shoe which is also included. SmallRig has the traditional dual head screwdriver but it no longer comes with the Allen Key to remove the side bracket. I still had mine from the Z6_2 L Bracket.

I didn't have any issues mounting the camera using the Arca Swiss Mount on my tripod. The L Bracket has two places to attach your camera straps because the side bracket will now block the use of the OEM mount on the left side. Like all SmallRig L Brackets, the side side bracket can slide out at attach other devices easily. When the L Bracket is attached to the Nikon Z6_3, it's about the same height as the Nikon Z8.

This is another great product by SmallRig and if you need a cage for video work, they also have them as well. For me and my use case, this is an excellent, perfect fitting L Bracket for my new Nikon Z6_3.
