Find Out More About The Main Characters
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise)
Ethan Hunt, and his team go through an odyssey inspired by and reflective of his story. It’s an epic personal tale, and there are enormous emotional stakes for all the characters. “Fallout” refers not only to nuclear fallout but also to the fallout of all of Ethan’s good intentions. He has walked into a situation beyond his control, and he has to go through it even though he knows he’s being manipulated.
Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames)
A central character since the first Impossible film in 1996. Luther is the “soul of the film” and gives a certain consciousness to Ethan.
Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg)
It’s good to be able to relax for a moment and laugh. A lot of the time that’s where Benji comes in. He started out as a systems analyst in the IMF labs before getting a taste for adventure when he was enlisted to remotely assist Ethan in Mission: Impossible III. In Ghost Protocol we find him out in the field for the first time and in Rogue Nation he’s become more accomplished and used to the idea of being a secret agent — although he still doesn’t take everything entirely seriously.
Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin)
Former CIA Director, Alan has recently been named secretary of the IMF.
Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson)
With her own objectives and unique approach to spycraft, Ilsa is initially at odds with the IMF team. She works mostly for herself and to achieve what she needs to. All the characters have different goals and agendas in this film. Sometimes they interact, and sometimes we put sticks in each other’s wheels, and that creates intense momentum.
Alana “The White Widow” (Vanessa Kirby)
Alana is an enigmatic character who comes into Ethan’s life as the total antithesis of all the women he’s met so far. She is a temptation, not just physically, but emotionally and psychologically. She seems to enjoy being involved with all of these nefarious characters, but you can’t trust her.
Erika Sloane (Angela Bassett)
She replaces Alec Baldwin’s Alan Hunley (now head of the IMF) as CIA Director and brings a very different attitude to the job. Sloane is ruthless and hard-charging, Erika has no tolerance for the IMF and their games, but at the same time is somewhat disarming in her manner.
August Walker (Henry Cavill)
He’s something of a wild card in this story. There’s a great deal of friction between him and Ethan, which comes to a boil over the course of the movie. The CIA’s top assassin, Walker also harbors his own dark agenda. He’s a cleaner; he takes out the people you can’t capture. But beyond that he’s an anarchist.
Product description
Some missions are not a choice. On a dangerous assignment to recover stolen plutonium, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) chooses to save his team over completing the mission, allowing nuclear weapons to fall into the hands of a deadly network of highly-skilled operatives intent on destroying civilisation. Now, with the world at risk, Ethan and his IMF team (Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson) are forced to become reluctant partners with a hard-hitting CIA agent (Henry Cavill) as they race against time to stop the nuclear fallout. There’s never been a threat more destructive or stunts more jaw-dropping than in this film that critics are calling “the best Mission yet” (Jamie Graham, TOTAL FILM).

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 July 2023Style Name: SingleVerified PurchaseWith the mouthful that is Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning - Part One out. Here is a rundown of the previous big screen installments, that are based on the brilliant sci-fi espionage show of the 60s.
Mission: Impossible.
The one where if actual did watch the 60s TV show, you would know that Jim Phelps would never behave in the way he did here.
Brian DePalmer's Direction is solid and this is a really enjoyable first movie to this ongoing franchise. It does have an extremely unbelievable 3rd act, as a helicopter follows a train into tunnel, but as we will discover these films will continue attempt to make the Impossible seem possible...its in the title after all.
Mission: Impossible 2.
The one where Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, grows his hair, fights alot in slow motion and falls in love with a criminal. Meanwhile some terrorists want to do something bad with a virus.
MI2 is the most stylistically different of the franchise and it is probably not as bad as you remember.
John Woo's Direction is slick in a 90s pop video kinda way.
Mission: Impossible 3.
The where the series falls into its formulaic stride.
Ethan Hunt, once again with short hair but missing his love interest from film 2, has stopped working in the field and has gained a fiance and the form of Julia Meade, played by Michelle Monaghan. He is forced to return to active duty, gets his team together, blah! blah! blah! something about a ruthless arms dealer.
J. J. Abrams directs and humour is sprinkled throughout for flavour. This is now the template for the following movies.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.
Ok, it's all getting a bit samey now, but don't be put off.
Ethan *I think we're on first name terms now* with hair longer than in films 1 and 3, but not as long as 2, is in prison. He is helped to escape by Benj, played by Simon Pegg, who is now the new comedy field agent. The IMF team have to save the world from some nuclear shenanigans. But they have all been wrongfully blamed for the bombing of the Kremlin, making the job very difficult if not impossible.
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.
Some of the team return, some don't, with some new faces added whom may or may not be trustworthy. There must be some serious trust issues in the IMF team by now!
Anyhoo! Sean Harris plays the deliciously creepy Solomon Lane the head of SPECTOR, sorry I meant the Syndicate. Lane has dropped out of MI6 to do some sort of Thanos thing.
The good thing is that no matter how silly these movies get, they do seem to improve as the series progresses.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout.
Some uranium cores go missing in a typical IMF bungle, but mostly because of Ethan Hunt's kind heart. So the team have to retreave them.
Solomon Lane returns as creepy as ever, but this time Ethan must exchange Lane for the uranium or something like that anyway?
At this point the action is so fast and furious *pun intend* that you are on the edge of you seat by the end.
Superman pops up sporting a moustache for some reason?
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning - Part One....light the fuse....

Plenty of action and a great story line makes this not only a great film but also a great addition to the series.
