The Incredibles

Bob Parr (A.K.A. Mr. Incredible), and his wife Helen (A.K.A. Elastigirl), are the world's greatest famous crime-fighting superheroes in Metroville. Always saving lives and battling evil on a daily basis. But fifteen years later, they have been forced to adopt civilian identities and retreat to the suburbs where they have no choice but to retire as superheroes to live a 'normal life' with their three children Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack (who were secretly born with superpowers). Itching to get back into action, Bob gets his chance when a mysterious communication summons him to a remote island for a top secret assignment. Dashiell Robert 'Dash' Parr is at age 10 the elder son of Bob and Helen Parr. He has the ability to move at great speeds, and is fast enough to run on the surface water. He has an older sister, Violet, and a younger brother, Jack-Jack.

After creating the last great traditionally animated film of the 20th century, The Iron Giant, filmmaker Brad Bird joined top-drawer studio Pixar to create this exciting, completely entertaining computer-animated film. Bird gives us a family of "supers," a brood of five with special powers desperately trying to fit in with the 9-to-5 suburban lifestyle. Of course, in a more innocent world, Bob and Helen Parr were superheroes, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. But blasted lawsuits and public disapproval forced them and other supers to go incognito, making it even tougher for their school-age kids, the shy Violet and the aptly named Dash. When a stranger named Mirage (voiced by Elizabeth Pena) secretly recruits Bob for a potential mission, the old glory days spin in his head, even if his body is a bit too plump for his old super suit.

Bird has his cake and eats it, too. He and the Pixar wizards send up superhero and James Bond movies while delivering a thrilling, supercool action movie that rivals Spider-Man 2 for 2004's best onscreen thrills. While it's just as funny as the previous Pixar films, The Incredibles has a far wider-ranging emotional palette (it's Pixar's first PG film). Bird takes several jabs, including some juicy commentary on domestic life ("It's not graduation, he's moving from the fourth to fifth grade!").

The animated Parrs look and act a bit like the actors portraying them, Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter. Samuel L. Jackson and Jason Lee also have a grand old time as, respectively, superhero Frozone and bad guy Syndrome. Nearly stealing the show is Bird himself, voicing the eccentric designer of superhero outfits ("No capes!"), Edna Mode.

    My first purchase for my new blu ray player. This has to be one of the best animated features ever made. It's funny, clever, warm, charming, original and never dull. Every joke pays off, every character is well-formed, the concept of a family of superheroes living a suburban life and trying to fit in is a perfect set up for this kind of movie. Frankly, anything directed by Brad Bird is worth forking out money to see - Ratatoullie is another amazing piece - he's brilliant at comic situations, and cut his teeth on the Simpsons in the days when it was actually funny, and is up there with Speilberg when it comes to family stories, understanding the dynamics that make up modern family life and using them to great effect. Fantastic.

    Luckily I was only after the film on blu-ray itself having seen the extras on the 2-disc dvd.
    The picture is beautifully vibrant with rich colours and the sound is crystal clear and punchy. As others have said though, this is a substandard release with a lot of exras missing over the U.S release. Only worth it if like me you are after the film + Jack Jack Attacks + Boundin' - but to be honest thats all I wanted from this 1 disc set anyway, and I only got it because it had dropped from £16 to a £10 in the ÍøÆغÚÁÏ summer sale. Only worth it as a purchase for a tenner.

    When I went to see this on the big screen with some friends, I thought they had picked a not-so-hot Pixar film. Half way through, I knew it was a winner! Great story with the usual brilliant Pixar CGI. No wonder they keep picking up Oscars.

    I heard that Pixar is re-mastering their 2-D films into 3-D (like they did with TOY STORY, MONSTERS INC., and FINDING NEMO). Well, I couldn't wait any longer for the 3-D versions of THE INCREDIBLES & A BUG'S LIFE, so I bought the 2-D versions for now.

    Great film I had this on DVD region 1 years ago this blu Ray version is a good upgrade.it has excellent sound good speaker separation a very well defined sound field, and a lot of low end punch the picture quality is up there with monsters inc the film itself has a good story. This film can be appreciated by everyone there is a fair amount of extras on the disc if you like Pixar films I would highly recommend it

    As is usually the case Disney is very proud of their movies to the point of being ridiculous about it this movie runs from $35 and up and that's more than I'm willing to pay for any title this one was $15 and so I went ahead and purchased it because this is the best in my opinion of the Pixar releases if you're going to have Superhero Cartoons they translate better in CGI the presentation of this title is bordering on excellence the presentation is Excellence the picture quality was perfect as expected of any good 1080p Blu-ray it definitely met expectations I've always loved this movie and I'm glad I have it in my collection I will watch it again and again it's one of my favorites until Disney Gets a grip and realizes that they're charging far far too much for their titles I will have very few Disney titles in my collection I hope they wake up to that at some point and realize volume is better than share profit in the end they make about the same amount of money it's far better for the consumer to lower the price and sell more than it is to keep the price high and sell a few are you listening Disney I hope so but I'm not holding my breath the title is excellent the picture quality is excellent ÍøÆغÚÁÏ delivered on time and intact this is a very very good title if you're a Pixar fan this is a must and considering that there's a new release coming out in the near future buy it now while they're still inexpensive $15 is not bad for this title still bordering on the expensive side but low enough that is reasonable enough for me to have bought it and to feel the need to recommended to all that might be interested I hope my review is help you please forgive my rant I'm getting a little tired of Disney titles being completely out of the question on prices there many of their movies I would love to have but I simply can't justify their prices or afford them much less thank you for listening.
