SYNOPSIS

Disneys The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau, journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cubs arrival. Scar, Mufasas brotherand former heir to the thronehas plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simbas exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonc Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.

    So, I thought getting the Lion King in 4K was just about sharper lions. Little did I know, it'd be my secret weapon in the dating jungle.

    Expectations:
    Expected nostalgic roars, got way more than I bargained forcinematic magic that turned me into the Mufasa of modern romance.

    Unboxing:
    Opened the box, and Rafiki would've been proud. The Blu-ray emerged like Simba from Pride Rock, or was it Pride Remote?

    First Impressions:
    4K clarity? I've never seen Hakuna Matata in such detail. It's like Timon and Pumbaa are in my living room, offering dating advice.

    Key Features:
    Ultra-HD? Check. Dolby Atmos? Double-check. It's not just a movie; it's a safari for my senses.

    How to Use:
    Put it in the player, press play, and let the nostalgia roll. Note: Do not attempt to reenact the "Circle of Life" at family gatherings.

    Personal Experience:
    Date Night: Put Lion King on for "ambience." Date assumed I was deep, connected to nature. Reality: Just wanted to impress with cool lions.

    Parents' Visit: Scar's villainy in 4K? Parents questioned my choice of entertainment. I blame Disney for my awkward explanations.

    Boss at Work: Attempted a Lion King-inspired speech at a meeting. Got more puzzled stares than Mufasa in stampede mode. Fired? Not yet, but it's a ticking clock.

    Bad Feature:
    It's not the movie; it's me. Can't stop reenacting scenes. The neighbors are filing a noise complaint about my "Roar-aoke."

    Quality of Life Upgrade:
    Turns out, the Lion King is a dating magnet. Swimsuit models love a guy who can flawlessly sing "Can You Feel the Love Tonight."

    While not as good as the cartoon the film looks amazing especially the level of detail. I really hoped that they would mix things up again however being truer to life the film now lacks the humour the animated version had and it's easily missed.

    There are sections that are better than the animated cartoon but this is overshadowed with the bits that are worse because of the different ways to play out a scene because it's live action. And the less we speak about the additional bits and singing can you feel the love tonight in broad daylight the better.

    James Earl Jones unfortunately sounds really old but I loved having him back, Donald Glover does a great job with Simba as well as Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner as Pumbaa & Timon.
    John Oliver as Zazu is a little weak and you miss that humour that Rowan Atkinson brought to the role and the same can be said about Chiwetel Ejiofor as scar, he just doesnt have that terrifying voice Jeremy Irons had.

    The less we speak about Beyonc the better!

    I'll review the 4k quality rather than the film. I'm not getting into the comparison to the original other than to say I think this is better.
    Visually this is stunning. It feels like you can step into the screen and touch the characters. The quality of animation in flawless and the UHD reporduction is incredible. For once it makes.greatbise of HDR and doesn't make the whole thing look false. The sunsets and and the use of sunlight is really brought out in a super realistic way, see for example the opening scene with the cranes splashing through the pool on takeoff, or the lights dancing on the foliage when the mouse is running about.
    The sound is equally splendid and gives a great sense of presence. The stampede scene through surround sound shakes the room and heightens the sense of being there.
    This is far and away the best looking and sounding UHD HDR bluray I have seen.
    If you don't want to spasm out the extra for this, I can also say the DVD is stunning too asnis the normal BluRay. But if you're looking at this review, you'll be after the 4K version, so go ahead and buy it. You decide for yourself if you like this version of the film, I do and think it is superior in every way to the original, bit opinions vary, in quite a hostile way of you read some reviews of this!
