- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 January 2016The Rescuers Down Under is an American animated film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and first released by Walt Disney Pictures and Buena Vista Distribution on November 16, 1990. The twenty-ninth film in the Disney Animated Canon, the film is the sequel (Disney's second for an animated feature) to the 1977 animated classic The Rescuers, which was based on the novels of Margery Sharp.
This film, The Three Caballeros, Fantasia 2000 and Winnie the Pooh are the only Disney sequels that are part of the Disney Animated Canon, as they were produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. The film takes place in the Australian Outback, and belongs to the era known as the Disney Renaissance (1989-1999), which began with The Little Mermaid the year before this sequel was released. It was also the second Disney sequel to have been shown in theaters.
The film is known as Bernard and Bianca in the Land of the Kangaroos in countries where the phrase "Down Under" is not as well known or is deemed as offensive. It also became the first fully digital feature film for Disney and the world.
Another Rescuers movie was planned for 1996, but after the deaths of Eva Gabor and John Candy, this and all future Rescuers movies were scrapped. Also, the financial failure of the film discouraged The Walt Disney Company from releasing later sequels theatrically.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 January 2013I've a vague memory of seeing 'The Rescuers Down Under' at the movies when it was first released in the good ole Down Under; yes I'm from Australia :) The vague memory part: I was only in kinder hence I only remember Bernard, Bianca, Cody and Jake in terms of character but not the plot.
The thing that blew me away hence the title of this review was the animation! If you buy this DVD the production staff in the making of documentary tout the movie for its artwork and animation; and rightfully so! Scenery was well researched and gave the film a great deal of dimension. When Cody is standing atop the cliffs with the eagle, I really felt I was in the picture. And the scenes with the golden eagle; flying, falling, gliding again gave the feeling of being Cody in the movie.
Only real criticism hence the 4 star rating: stereo types! I realise the idea of Jake's Steve Irwin/Paul Hogan like mannerisms and demeanour were to hammer the point that he's Australian and it was the outback. Even so, as an Australian I can't help but cringe at the immitation slouch hat and faux Australian accent; it just sounds so fake!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 November 2023My little Grandson absolutely loves this little book. The book is easy to use with little hands and would definitely recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 June 2011This dvd was bought to replace a much loved video so I knew what I was buying. For anybody who has not seen the rescuers, it is a story about two mice sent to rescue a little girl held captive in the everglades. This the sequel about a little boy in Australia, same basic plot of nice and nasty animals to keep the children entertained, but enough Australian parodies to amuse the accompanying adults.

This came from an ÍøÆغÚÁÏ international seller and they most certainly are top notch! The product arrived 16 days before the estimated ship date and their customer service response was timely and pleasant. Great job!

1.0 out of 5 stars PAL Region 2, Not for USA
If you're in the USA and using typical consumer equipment, you will not be able to play this since it's a european version of the film. Avoid the mistake I made and get the Region 1 NTSC version instead. The package says in fine print on the back "this DVD is not to be exported, resupplied, or distributed by way of trade outside the EU..." so I am not sure why this is listed on the US ÍøÆغÚÁÏ site to begin with. Item also arrived broken into pieces by USPS so I must just have terrible luck.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for US devices
Classic movie, and I enjoyed it as much as I did when I watched it as a kid.
However, this DVD is not formatted for US devices, and this is not specified when you order it.
